10. Hindu temples, like the one shown in Figure 8-3, were created through a meticulous process involving skilled artisans, architects, and craftsmen. The construction of a Hindu temple typically followed certain principles and rituals prescribed in ancient texts called the Shilpa Shastras.
11. The process involved selecting a suitable site, usually considered sacred, and preparing the ground for construction. The temple layout and design were planned according to specific measurements and proportions based on Vedic architectural principles. Skilled artisans and sculptors then carved intricate stone sculptures and architectural elements that adorned the temple walls and facades.
The construction of the temple involved assembling these carved stone elements, such as pillars, lintels, and decorative motifs, meticulously fitting them together using traditional joinery techniques. The final stage included consecration rituals to infuse the temple with divine presence and sanctity.
The unusually long earlobes found on Buddha sculptures are symbolic and represent an important aspect of Buddhist iconography. The elongated earlobes are considered a physical trait of the Buddha, symbolizing his renunciation of worldly attachments, particularly material wealth.
According to the traditional accounts of the Buddha's life, Siddhartha Gautama, the historical figure who later became known as the Buddha, was born into a royal family and lived a life of luxury. However, upon his spiritual quest and eventual enlightenment, he renounced his princely life and embraced a path of asceticism and simplicity.
During his princely life, the Buddha was said to have worn heavy earrings that stretched his earlobes. When he renounced his luxurious lifestyle, he removed the earrings, but the stretched earlobes remained. Therefore, the elongated earlobes became an identifying feature in Buddhist art to signify the Buddha's renunciation and detachment from worldly possessions.

The sculpture serves as a reminder of the Hindu belief in the transformative power of knowledge and the eternal cycle of life and rebirth.

What are the new developments in Romantic music and who are some of the composers who led the way, and how did they contribute to the new developments? How were they DIFFERENT from the Classical Period?
The Romantic era in music, which roughly spanned from the late 18th century to the early 20th century, saw many new developments that set it apart from the Classical period that preceded it.
What are The Romantic era in musicSome of the most significant composers who led the way in this new era include Ludwig van Beethoven, Franz Schubert, Robert Schumann, Johannes Brahms, and Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky.
One of the major differences between Romantic and Classical music is the emphasis on emotion and individual expression in the former. Romantic composers sought to convey their personal feelings through their music, often using intense and dramatic melodies and harmonies. They also expanded the size of the orchestra and used new instruments, such as the tuba and saxophone, to create more varied and powerful soundscapes.
Schubert, on the other hand, was known for his expressive melodies and use of modulations and harmonies to create a melancholic atmosphere in his music. He is also credited with popularizing the art song, which combines poetry and music to create a unified work of art.
Schumann, who was a close friend of Schubert, was known for his use of complex harmonies and thematic development in his compositions. He often composed works that were meant to be played as a cycle, such as his "Carnaval" and "Davidsbündlertänze," which featured interconnected musical ideas and themes.
Brahms, meanwhile, drew inspiration from the works of earlier composers, such as Beethoven and Bach, and sought to continue the tradition of Classical music while incorporating Romantic elements. He was known for his use of counterpoint, or the interweaving of multiple melodies, and his attention to detail in his compositions.

Write: Why does the speaker feel that he could be more effective than famous education reformers?
The text:
When I actually did make it to college, I told my friend Brennan how our teachers would always ask us to raise our hands if we were going to college. I was taken aback when Brennan said, “Karim, I’ve never been asked that question before.” It was always, “What college are you going to?” Just the way that question is phrased made it unacceptable for him not to have gone to college.
Nowadays I get asked a different question. “How were you able to make it out?” For years I said I was lucky, but it’s not just luck. When my older brother and I graduated from high school at the very same time and he later dropped out of a two-year college, I wanted to understand why he dropped out and I kept studying. It wasn’t until I got to Cornell as a Presidential Research Scholar that I started to learn about the very real educational consequences of being raised by a single mother on government aid and attending the schools that I did. That’s when my older brother’s trajectory began to make complete sense to me.
I also learned that our most admirable education reformers, people like Arne Duncan, the former US Secretary of Education, or Wendy Kopp, the founder of Teach For America, had never attended an inner city public school like I had. So much of our education reform is driven by a sympathetic approach, where people are saying, “Let’s go and help these poor inner city kids, or these poor black and Latino kids,” instead of an empathetic approach, where someone like me, who had grown up in this environment, could say, “I know the adversities that you’re facing and I want to help you overcome them.”

Traditional animation typically has 24-29 frames per second and arranges each frame one after the other. With the rigging approach used in modern animation, only the initial and end frames of each sequence need to be created; the rest are produced by a computer program.
