:if nadir shone a torchlight through a green filter onto his red jumper, what color will his jumper appear to be? give scientific reasons

Answers

Her jumper would appear dark and drab, practically a dark shade of gray, if Ray shone a green filter on it.

What color would the red jumper appear to be if a green filter was placed between the torchlight and the red sweater?

This is so because the wavelengths of light that an object reflects define its color. In the case of red clothing, it reflects red light with wavelengths between 620 and 750 nm. The green filter, however, blocks all other wavelengths, including red ones, and only allows green light wavelengths (between 495 and 570 nm) to get through when it is positioned in front of the red jumper.

We wouldn't see the colour red because red wavelengths are blocked and red clothing can't reflect them back to our eyes. Instead, we would observe the dark and dreary greyish-green color that is produced when residual green wavelengths combine with the color of the red garment.

The interaction between green filter's color wavelengths and red jumper's color wavelengths causes red jumper to appear as a dark and dreary greyish-green color when green filter is shone upon it.

Rain is falling vertically at 8.0 ms relative to the ground. The rain drops make tracks on the side window of a car at an angle of 30° below the horizontal. Calculate the speed of the car

Answers

When rain is falling vertically at 8m/s then the speed of the car is calculated to be 4.618 m/s.

What happens to the velocity of car when it rains?

The velocity of the raindrops adds to the velocity of the car to produce a velocity of the rain relative to the car.

As the surface becomes rougher, friction increases and on rainy days, we are more likely to slip because water acts as a lubricant between feet and the ground. Dry friction is converted to fluid friction by rainwater.  Rain drops have a uniform type of motion

Given rain is falling vertically with 8 m/s speed

and rain drop makes an angle of  30°

As we know that, tan∅ = V (horizontal) / V (vertical)

Hence,  V (horizontal)= tan ∅ *  V (vertical)

The hydro power plant transforms one form of energy into another. However, the total amount
of energy of the water stays the same until it enters the turbine.

Explain how this statement is supported by the three column charts above.

*attached is the column charts

The hydro power plant transforms one form of energy into another. However, the total amountof energy

Answers

The hydro power plant consists of a (artificial) dam that builds gravitational potential energy, P.E. from natural flowing water sources, by locating the dam along the water path. The stored potential energy, P. is converted into kinetic energy, K.E. as the water falls from the dam, down to the turbines, located at a much lower level according to the following principle of conservation of energy equation;

Total Mechanical Energy, M.E. = The potential energy of the water, P.E. + The kinetic energy of the water, K.E. = Constant

M.E. = P.E. + K.E. = Constant

Where;

P.E. = m·g·h

K.E. = (1/2)·m·v²

m = Mass

g = The acceleration due to gravity

h = The height of the dam

v = The velocity

The charts can be explained as follows;

Given that the potential energy P.E. = m·g·h, we have that the potential energy is directly proportional to the height of the dam, and therefore, at mid height, the potential energy would be half the maximum value, and we have;

At mid height, P.E. = (1/2)·\(\mathbf{P.E._{max}}\)

At the top of the dam, the (vertical) velocity of the water = 0, therefore, the kinetic energy = 0

Therefore, at the top of the dam, we get;

M.E. = \(P.E._{max}\) + 0 =

M.E. = \(\mathbf{P.E._{max}}\)

Similarly, at the bottom of the dam, the height, h = 0, therefore, being proportional to the height, P.E. = 0, and the velocity is maximum, and at the bottom, we have;

M.E. = 0 + \(K.E._{max}\)

The first chart, water is halfway down the dam

At the halfway down therefore, we have;

P.E. = (1/2)·\(\mathbf{P.E._{max}}\)

M.E. = \(P.E._{max}\) = (1/2)·

∴ K.E. = \(P.E._{max}\) - (1/2)·

Therefore the first chart, water is halfway down the dam;

Halfway, K.E. = (1/2)·\(\mathbf{P.E._{max}}\) = P.E.

K.E. = P.E.  as shown on the chart

The second chart, water has reached the turbine

Water reaches the turbine at the bottom, and as explained above, we get;

M.E. = 0 + \(K.E._{max}\)

∴ M.E.≈ \(K.E._{max}\)

Therefore, when water has reached the turbine at the bottom of the dam, the kinetic energy is approximately proportional to the total mechanical energy as shown in the chart

The third chart, water is at the top of the dam

Here as shown above, we have;

The total mechanical energy, M.E. ≈ \(\mathbf{P.E._{max}}\) as shown on the chart

He then remembers that he has power of attorney (i.E., control over someone else's finances/legal issues) for his out-of-touch-with-reality, but healthy, 85-year-old father. The man could, without anyone knowing, use his father's money to pay for the surgery. However, this would leave his father with only one year of living expenses. The man decides to take his father's money for his daughter's surgery. Should the man have done that? Why?

Explanation:

Pre conventional Stage:

The daughter's father would think about either the penalty during that point if he commits any wrongdoing or breaches laws to save her daughter. But another way to make that happen for surgery is that a person cares about either the legislation and rules as well as the significance of respecting them throughout the pre-conventional process. He will also attempt to establish its insight into solving these problems.

Conventional Stage:

As per the traditional process of the spiritual psychosocial development of Kohlberg, her father would think of civilization because there are conventions that unless he borrows money of his dad again for the procedure of their daughter, culture would label him greedy or prejudice against him to pay the profits of his father despite his consideration.

Post conventional Stage:

Which situations show examples of work occurring? Check all that apply

Answers

Examples of work taking place include options 1, 2, and 3.

Work is said to be done when a force causes a displacement in an object in the direction of the force. The following situations are examples of work occurring:

Lifting a box off the ground: The force of lifting the box causes a displacement in the box in the upward direction, which is the same direction as the force applied. Therefore, work is done on the box.

Pushing a car up a hill: The force of pushing the car causes a displacement in the car in the direction of the hill, which is the same direction as the force applied. Therefore, work is done on the car.

Carrying a backpack: Although the backpack may not be moving, work is still being done because the force of carrying the backpack causes a displacement in the person's body in the upward direction.

Holding a heavy object: If a person is holding a heavy object, but not moving it, no work is being done on the object because there is no displacement. However, the person's muscles are still working to maintain the position, which is an example of isometric work.

Therefore, options 1, 2, and 3 are examples of work occurring. Option 4 is not an example of work being done on the object, but it is an example of work being done by the person's muscles.

14. A load of bricks is being lifted by a crane at the steady velocity of 16ft/sec, but 20ft above the ground one brick falls off. Describe the motion of the free brick by sketching x(t). (a) What is the greatest height the brick reaches above the ground? (b) How long does it take to reach the ground? (c) What is its speed just before it hits the ground?

Answers

The maximum height reached by the brick above the ground is 20 ft. The time taken by the brick to reach the ground is 0 seconds. Free-fall motion (uniformly accelerated motion) after falling from a height of 20 feet. Further, the acceleration experienced by the free brick is equal to the acceleration due to gravity which is approximately 32ft/sec², downward.

Hence, we can write its acceleration as, a = g = 32ft/sec².

Here, u = 0 as the brick was not moving initially while it was at rest on the top of the load of bricks.

Now, the value of v(t) can be obtained by integrating the above expression w.r.t. time as shown below:v(t) = u + a.t = 0 + 32t = 32t ...(1)

The value of x(t) can be obtained by integrating the expression for v(t) w.r.t. time, i.e. t as shown below :x(t) = (1/2).a.t² + u.t + x₀ = (1/2).32t² + 0 + 20ft = 16t² + 20ft ...(2)

Here, x₀ = 20ft is the initial displacement of the brick above the ground.

Now, we can answer the questions as follows:

(a) Using  the following relation: v = u + a.t = 0 when the brick is at its highest point.

Hence, the time taken to reach this point can be obtained as follows:0 = u + a.t ⇒ t = (-u/a) = (0/32) sec = 0 secThis means that the brick reaches its maximum height at t = 0 sec, which is the initial moment.

Thus, the maximum height reached by the brick above the ground is, x(0) = 16.0² + 20 = 20 ft

(b) The time taken by the brick to reach the ground can be obtained by using the following relation: x(t) = 0.

Here, we are interested in finding the value of t.

Hence, we can substitute x(t) from equation (2) above and equate it to 0 to obtain the value of t as shown below:16t² + 20 = 0 ⇒ t² = -(20/16) sec².

This means that the brick doesn't take any finite time to reach the ground from its maximum height.

This is because it falls vertically downwards from a height of 20 ft under the action of gravity.

Thus, it reaches the ground at t = 0 sec only.

(c) The speed of the brick just before it hits the ground can be obtained by using the expression for v(t) from equation (1) above and substituting t = 0 sec (just before it hits the ground) as shown below:

v(0) = 32(0) = 0 ft/sec.

Hence, the speed of the brick just before it hits the ground is 0 ft/sec.

Answers

The moment of inertia of a rotating object is the torque required for angular acceleration. Wheel A has three times the moment of inertia of wheel B, and their angular speed is four times that of wheel A. the value of KA/KB is 24

The moment of inertia of a rotating object represents the amount of torque that must be applied to it in order to produce an angular acceleration of a certain magnitude. According to the question, wheel A has three times the moment of inertia of wheel B about its axis of rotation.

Thus, the ratio of the moment of inertia of wheel A to that of wheel B is given by:Iₐ/Iₚ = 3/1 (1)Also, it is given that the angular speed of wheel B is four times that of wheel A. Since the rotational kinetic energy of a wheel is given by the expression KE = 1/2*I*w²,

the ratio of the rotational kinetic energies of wheels A and B, KA/KB, can be given by:

KA/KB = (1/2 * Ia * wa²) / (1/2 * Ib * wb²)

We substitute Equation (1) in the above equation to get:

KA/KB = (1/2 * 3 * Ib * 16) / (1/2 * Ib * 1)KA/KB

What is acceleration due to gravity?

The acceleration an object experiences as a result of gravitational force is known as acceleration due to gravity. M/s² is its SI unit. Its vector nature—which includes both magnitude and direction. The unit g stands for gravitational acceleration. At sea level, the standard value of g on earth's surface is 9.8 m/s².

In the question, it is said that the coin lands 0.2 m away from the table horizontally and the coin has a speed of 0.4 m/s horizontally.

So, distance = speed × time

There's also people in need, so you decide to blend your vacation with volunteering. Volunteering as a tourist, or voluntourism, seems like a great way to explore new regions and help people at the same time. However, this "volunteer plus travel" experience can actually harm local communities. While many teens might view traveling and volunteering abroad as a worthwhile adventure, there are more genuine and effective ways to make a difference.[2] Most would agree that volunteering in general is a worthy use of time. However, what if you found out the children you are "helping" are actually being kept in poor conditions so voluntourists will spend money to come to the local area? Dale Rolfe, a supporter of ethical voluntourism, explains the shocking reality that "Animal sanctuaries and orphanages are often manufactured for the voluntourist...encouraging a cycle of exploiting the very animals and children the volunteers are trying to help."[3] Proponents of the "volunteer plus travel" experience also argue that traveling to new places builds character and is a valuable way to learn about different cultures. With voluntourism, however, participants often pursue experiences that are all about them. For example, they sign up to build a school for a gold star on their resume, but they have no real building skills and take jobs away from local construction workers (Schulten). Or, they arrive to teach English but instead take selfies with the locals. One world traveler and ethical voluntourist believes voluntourism "can perpetuate small minded views of the world by taking insulated, fake, and structured experiences and selling them as unabridged and eye opening" (Carlos). The voluntour experience is a mirage. The voluntourist's eyes are not opened to real life at the destination, and lasting change is not achieved.[4] If you want a genuine experience where you can see a lasting impact, there are better options than voluntourism. You can volunteer in your local community. Give an hour every week to your town's animal rescue. Serve monthly dinners to the homeless. Be a reliable, positive influence on a child who needs a mentor. Studies show that volunteering and forming lasting relationships with those you help has a positive impact on your physical and emotional health. In fact, blood pressure is reduced, memory is improved, and rates of depression are reduced (Michaels).[5] There is another reason to look into alternatives to voluntourism. Did you know the average "voluntour" travel package costs $3,400 (Rolfe)? Could that travel money be better spent? If the world's citizens are your passion, it could go to an international organization. If you care about education, your funds can be used to buy books for students in faraway lands. If you want villagers to have clean water, contribute funds to local efforts to dig wells. If you want to experience a different culture, travel to the country as a guest, and learn from the locals how you can best help them after you've returned home. But do not voluntour.[6] In reality, there are better ways to make a difference. Voluntourism might appear to be an adventure that blends travel and helping others, but it does little except provide a costly, superficial experience that might actually do more harm than good. So, volunteer where you are most needed-at home, where you can stay to see the job through and form genuine, lasting relationships. Choose a beautiful coastline closer to home and send the travel money you saved to an international organization that will put it to good use. Whatever you do, don't turn someone else's hardship into your vacation."The Opportunity of a Lifetime"A magazine advertisement with the title Which two elements from the advertisement "The Opportunity of a Lifetime" could the speaker of "Voluntourism: An Opportunity Too Good to be True" use to support the point that voluntourists are in the experience for their own gain?
