describe one positive effect and one negative effect of north Africa, southwest Asia, and central Asia being an oil-rich region
As a direct result of oil, millions of people in these and other regions of the Middle East have access to housing, employment, and education. The drawback is that illicit terrorism has been funded in Yemen, Syria, and Iraq with revenue from oil sales.
What problems does North Africa face in producing oil?Production of crude oil and gross natural gas has significantly decreased in recent years, mostly as a result of recurrent project delays brought on by tardy government approval, challenges luring investors, infrastructural deficiencies, and technical issues. Investor interest in starting new oil and natural gas projects on the parameters set by the government was relatively low throughout the previous four licensing cycles.
According to estimates, Algeria has the third-largest global shale gas resource base. Algeria will face many challenges in developing these resources, including the remoteness of the shale acreage, the lack of infrastructure and accessibility to sites, the availability of water, the absence of roads and pipelines to move materials, and the requirement for more rigs because shale wells run dry more quickly.

All but which of the following sampling techniques are appropriate for field research?
- snowball sampling
- purposive sampling
- controlled probability sampling
- non-probability techniques
All of the options provided (snowball sampling, purposive sampling, controlled probability sampling, and non-probability techniques) can be appropriate for field research.
1. Snowball sampling: This technique involves identifying initial participants and then asking them to refer other potential participants.
It is useful for studying hard-to-reach populations or when traditional sampling frames are not available.
2. Purposive sampling: This technique involves selecting participants based on specific criteria relevant to the research objectives.
Researchers intentionally choose individuals who possess desired characteristics or knowledge related to the study.
3. Controlled probability sampling: This technique involves randomly selecting participants from a defined population, ensuring each member has a known and nonzero probability of being selected.
It provides a basis for making statistical inferences about the population.
4. Non-probability techniques: These sampling techniques, such as convenience sampling or quota sampling, are commonly used in field research.
They may not involve random selection and might introduce sampling bias, but they can still provide valuable insights in certain contexts.
Therefore, all of the provided sampling techniques can be appropriate for field research, depending on the research goals, available resources, and nature of the study population.

The appropriate sampling techniques for field research include snowball sampling, purposive sampling, and non-probability techniques. The correct answer is option a.
However, controlled probability sampling is not typically used in field research. Controlled probability sampling involves selecting participants from a defined population using randomization and probability sampling methods, such as simple random sampling or stratified random sampling.
This type of sampling is commonly employed in quantitative research studies with larger sample sizes and when the goal is to make statistical inferences about the population.
In contrast, field research often utilizes qualitative methods and smaller sample sizes, where the focus is on in-depth exploration and understanding of specific cases or phenomena. Therefore, controlled probability sampling may not be practical or feasible in the context of field research.

Write about the Pros of Indian Judiciary system (for a debate)? (urgent pls)
Answer:
The collegium system must not see itself as being above the safeguards and measures for transparency, accountability and demographic representation that apply to India’s pillars of democracy.
In September 2019, Chief Justice of Madras High Court Vijaya Kamlesh Tahilramani resigned after the collegium upheld their decision to transfer her to the high court of Meghalaya (one of the smallest in the country). Justice Tahilramani was the senior-most high-court judge in the country. The members of the bar associations across Tamil Nadu protested against this move and carried “a one-day court boycott.” In addition, in Maharashtra's Latur, about 2,000 lawyers boycotted court proceedings to protest the transfer. The collegium responded by saying that they have “cogent reasons” for the transfer, and will reveal them if required.
At the heart of this controversy is the functioning of the collegium system, which makes decisions about appointments and transfers in the higher judiciary. In February 2020, former Supreme Court judge and member of the collegium from 2018–2019, Arjan Kumar Sikri, said that far from a “scientific study” about candidates, “most times, we [the collegium] go by “our impression” when appointing judges [to high courts and the Supreme Court].”
The collegium system is headed by the Chief Justice of India (CJI) and four senior-most judges of the Supreme Court. India’s Constitution originally stipulated that the judges of the Supreme Court and high courts would be appointed by the President based on a process of “consultation” with senior judges. The present collegium system emerged later based on three key rulings. In 1981, the “First Judges Case” ruled that the process of consultation with the CJI and other judges did not require a consensus about recommendations. Essentially, the ruling gave the central government “primacy in judicial appointments.” In 1993, the “Second Judges Case” overturned this decision and introduced the collegium system, arguing that “consultation” required “concurrence.” Specifically, the ruling said that the process of appointing judges would be based on “an institutional opinion formed in consultation with the two senior-most judges in the Supreme Court” and the CJI. In 1998, the “Third Judges Case” ruled that the collegium would be a five-member body, establishing the system that is most similar to the one currently being followed.
This reading list details how the current system can be reformed.
Opaque and Unaccountable System
C Raj Kumar writes that the lack of information about the appointment of judges, including the criteria based on which the judges make their choice, is “the most persuasive criticism of the collegium system.”
Without a transparent process of the appointment of judges, the collegium system will not have the credibility and the legitimacy for it to be accepted by all stakeholders within the legal system. Transparency will not be established merely by stating that the members of the collegium will act in a transparent manner. It will have to be demonstrated by the process that the judiciary adopts in the selection of judges.
The lack of transparency and the absence of formal criteria have multiple worrying implications. Presently, there is no structured process to investigate if a judge who is recommended by the collegium has any conflict of interests. This is important in the context where the
… collegium has been fraught with serious allegations of different types of alleged conflict of interest among the members of the collegium and the individuals they have selected to become judges of the High Courts and the Supreme Court. There is an urgent need for the collegium to formulate a detailed set of rules and regulations that will govern the determination of conflict of interest among the members of the collegium who are involved in the selection of judges.
Social Background of Judges
Alok Prasanna Kumar identifies that the collegium system prefers practising lawyers rather than appointing and promoting “judges of the subordinate judiciary,” which often comprises a diverse pool of candidates.

When we test for differences between the means of two independent populations we can only use a two-tailed test. T or F
False. When testing for differences between the means of two independent populations, we can use either a **two-tailed test** or a **one-tailed test**, depending on the research hypothesis and the specific research question being addressed.
In a two-tailed test, the null hypothesis states that there is no difference between the means of the two populations, and the alternative hypothesis states that there is a difference, without specifying the direction. This type of test is appropriate when we want to determine if there is a significant difference between the means, regardless of the direction of the difference. On the other hand, in a one-tailed test, the alternative hypothesis specifies the direction of the difference between the means (e.g., one population mean is expected to be greater than the other). This type of test is used when there is a specific directional hypothesis, and we are interested in testing if the difference falls in that specified direction. Therefore, when testing for differences between the means of two independent populations, we have the flexibility to choose between a two-tailed test or a one-tailed test based on the specific research question and hypothesis.
