They helped the birds migrate to Florida by disguising a plane to look like one of the birds. They flew along with the flock, guiding them to where they were supposed to go. When they arrived they were put into a "release pen." The release pen just so happened to also be near the Gibbs' house. Being near humans and getting comfortable with them isn't good for the cranes, so representatives from Operation Migration told Mrs. Gibbs about the situation, asking her to remove the feeders from her backyard. She refused to move the feeders because her husband was suffering from Alzheimer's, and loved seeing the whooping cranes because it brought him joy. The story didn't get to the scientist's, but they had to back down in the end.

Mrs. Thompson, a middle-aged school teacher, was standing in front of the classroom during a lively discussion on grammar. Suddenly, she stumbled and accidentally dropped her lesson plan on the ground.

One of the students, a young girl named Laura, noticed this and spoke up. "Mrs. Thompson, are you okay?"

Mrs. Thompson looked a bit embarrassed by her clumsiness, but luckily, she was an unflappable person who was used to overcoming unexpected obstacles. "Yes, Laura, I'm fine. Just a little misstep."

The class continued without a hitch and Mrs. Thompson was back to her usual upbeat self. Suddenly, one of the students, a stubborn young boy named Tim, raised his hand and asked a question that had nothing to do with the current lesson.

"Mrs. Thompson, why do we have to learn this boring stuff? It's definitely not going to help us in the real world."

Mrs. Thompson took a deep breath and tried to remain calm. She knew that Tim was an obstinate child, but she was adaptable and knew how to deal with him. "Tim, I understand that this subject may not be your favorite, but it's important to learn it. It will help you improve your language skills and be better at communicating."

Tim rolled his eyes, but Mrs. Thompson didn't let that faze her. She continued teaching the lesson, never losing her composure.

As the class ended, Laura approached Mrs. Thompson.

In a bustling café, permeated with the alluring scent of freshly brewed coffee, Sarah, an aspiring young writer brimming with determination, sat across from Henry, her unflappable and wise mentor. The café buzzed with lively conversations and joyous laughter as the two indulged in their steaming cups of java.

Abruptly, Sarah's eyes widened with a jolt of realization. "Oh no, Henry! I accidentally sent the incorrect version of my manuscript to the publisher. They were expecting my latest novel, but unknowingly, I sent them an outdated draft!"

Henry, renowned for his adaptable nature, calmly regarded Sarah's face, radiating anxiety. He swiftly assured her, "Fear not, Sarah. Fortunately, this predicament can be resolved. Let us promptly reach out to the publisher and elucidate the inadvertent mix-up."

A wave of relief washed over Sarah, yet an undercurrent of embarrassment persisted. She lamented, "I can't fathom how I committed such a foolish blunder. I ought to have been more cautious."

Henry, with his familiar and soothing voice, reassured her, "Mistakes are a part of life, Sarah. We all stumble on our paths. It is how we obstinately confront them that truly defines us."

Guided by Henry's wisdom, Sarah contacted the publisher, unbeknownst to her, a realm of unexpected possibilities awaited. The publisher, to her amazement, marveled at the obstinate craftsmanship of the outdated draft. They insisted it held definite promise, steering Sarah's embarrassment towards a newfound confidence. She realized that even in the face of mishaps, lies the potential for growth and unforeseen success.

You are asked to revise the following sentence so it contains no dangling or misplaced modifiers:

We hid behind the bushes waiting for squirrels holding our cameras.

Which choice is the best answer?

There is no revision needed. The original sentence is correct as it is.
Holding our cameras, we hid behind the bushes waiting for squirrels.
Holding our cameras, we waited for squirrels hiding behind the bushes.
We waited for squirrels hiding behind the bushes holding our cameras.

Answers

Answer:  Holding our cameras, we hid behind the bushes and waited for squirrels.

Explanation:

The original sentence, "We hid behind the bushes waiting for squirrels holding our cameras," contains a dangling modifier. It suggests that the squirrels were holding our cameras instead of us. To correct this, we need to rephrase the sentence so that the subject doing the action is mentioned.

One possible revision is, "Holding our cameras, we hid behind the bushes and waited for squirrels." This revision ensures that the phrase "holding our cameras" correctly modifies "we." It conveys that while holding our cameras, we hid behind the bushes and waited for squirrels.

By rephrasing the sentence, we maintain clarity and remove any imprecision regarding who is holding the cameras and waiting for the squirrels. This revision improves the sentence's structure and eliminates the issue of dangling or misplaced modifiers.

Answers

More energy storage molecules accessible to moon jellies allows them to reproduce more, resulting in more births. Fewer deaths would also enhance the jelly population. The number of sea turtles and moon jelly consumers has reduced. Moon jellies and other jellies, according to scientists, thrive in locations that are severely impacted by human activities. Overfishing, ocean warming, and pollution are all variables that diminish the predators and competitors of moon jellyfish while increasing their prey.

The moon jelly population decrease could have been caused by the decrease of food. There could have been an increase of competition for the food, making it harder for the jellies to survive on the dwindling food supply, which could have been caused by a population increase of the species the moon jellies pray on.

Read the excerpt from "On Becoming an Inventor" by Dean Kamen.

My next challenge was that I wanted to make things out of metal, so I became interested in how to use a lathe, a milling machine, and so on. I went to buy this new equipment I thought I'd need and met a man who had a machine shop of his own who was about to retire and move to Florida. He allowed me to visit him after school and on weekends to observe how he used all his tools. I was hooked. When he retired I bought not only all his big equipment but all his little toolboxes as well--they were treasures!

I decided to put his entire machine shop in our basement, but there were two problems... One, his shop wouldn't fit in our basement, and two, there was no way the lathe, weighing fifteen hundred pounds, and the milling machine, weighing two thousand pounds, could be carried into the basement. I solved this problem by hiring a contractor to dig a large hole, break open a wall of the basement, enclose the addition with concrete, and add a roof that could be used for building an outside deck to the house. I also enlarged my mother's kitchen and pantry. I now had the entire machine shop in our basement. At the time I was making enough money from my electronic devices to pay for all of this.

Which detail best supports Kamen’s opinion that he was hooked on making things out of metal?
A)He allowed me to visit him after school and on weekends to observe how he used all his tools.

Why does it not go sideways or upwards but directly toward the Earth’s center?” After much contemplation Newton concluded that objects are pulled to the Earth through a force that he called gravity, which means heaviness in Latin. Answer: I hope this helps

Explanation:

In the twentieth chapter of tuesdays with Morrie, called The Tenth Tuesday, Albom’s wife, Janine, is introduced for the first time when both her and Albom go to visit Morrie. When there, Janine, to Albom’s surprise, sings to Morrie when asks about her singing profession. Morrie and Albom then discuss Marriage, the topic of this chapter. Morrie talks about the need for a partner in today’s culture, “[they don’t know what they want in a partner. They don’t know who they are themselves---so how can they know who they’re marrying?” Albom then describes Morrie and his wife, Charlotte, and how they were a team, how their relationship flowed with unconditional love. Then Morrie describes the few rules he knows about Marriage, finishing with his faithful quote, “[l]ove each other or perish.” They then have a short discussion about the book of Job, and Morrie comments that God overdid it when allowing Job to suffer.  Morrie’s thoughts on this voice his opinion about his own suffering as he waits to die. The story of Job also ties into Marriage, because Job goes through much agony after losing everything, including his wife and children.

Morrie can no longer eat any of the food Mitch brings him, as he is restricted to a diet of liquids. His condition is drastically worse, as the disease has reached his lungs, which he had always said would mark his death. He is now reliant on an oxygen tank, and suffers violent, hour-long coughing spells, each a serious threat to his life.

Mitch brings his wife, Janine, with him to meet Morrie. Morrie had been asking to meet Janine since his first meetings with Mitch. One night, Morrie had been on the phone with Mitch, and he had asked to speak to Janine. Janine had taken the phone and conversed with Morrie as if they had been friends for many years, though they had never spoken before. Mitch thought that had he been put in her position, forced to speak on the phone with a complete stranger, he would have refused to take the call. When Janine had finished her conversation with Morrie, she announced that she would be joining Mitch on his next trip to Boston to meet his professor.

Use the text of the opinion piece, "What's for Lunch," and your completed graphic organizer to answer the question below. Include evidence from the article to support your answer. Do you think this author has an agenda? If so, what is it? If not, what is the purpose of her article? Does she achieve her purpose?

What’s for Lunch?
Marcia Amidon Lusted

Zachary Maxwell was tired of trying to explain to his parents why he wanted to bring lunch to school instead of eating hot lunch. They couldn’t understand why he didn’t want to eat the gourmet food described on the school’s online menu, which sounded both nutritious and interesting. Zachary just couldn’t convince them that the food wasn’t as great as it sounded. So in the fall of 2011, he began sneaking a small video camera into the cafeteria at his school, to show his parents what the lunches were really like. Six months and 75 school lunches later, Zachary made a documentary film about his lunch called Yuck: A 4th Grader’s Short Documentary About School Lunch.

Truth in Advertising?
"The city’s Department of Education says that it’s committed to providing ‘delicious and nutritious meals’ through their food service program. But the lunch being served at my school was nothing like what they were advertising on their web site," Zachary, now 11, says in the documentary’s trailer. "I told [my parents] that’s not what they were actually serving me," he said. "But I don’t think they believed me." For example, an "oven-baked pizza bagel with tricolor salad" was really nothing more than a slice of pizza and a wisp of lettuce. Sometimes there was no connection between the menu and what Zachary actually got. "Cheesy lasagna rolls with tomato basil sauce, roasted spinach with garlic and herbs" was, in reality, just a plastic-wrapped grilled cheese sandwich, all alone on a foam plate.
"When I came back home and showed them the footage, they were like, ugh!" Zachary said. His dad, an amateur filmmaker, started helping Zachary transform his video footage into a film. It won several awards, and Zachary also made appearances on television shows like Good Morning America.

Not Perfect, But Better
Let’s face it: many times school lunches just aren’t going to taste as good as they sound. Students also complain that with lunches that follow the new school lunch guidelines, there just isn’t enough food. Smaller portions, more fruits and veggies, and fewer calories leave some kids, especially teenagers, still hungry after eating their lunch. A group of students in Kansas even wrote a music video called "We Are Hungry," where they sing about their stomachs growling after lunch and how they’re collapsing on the sports field because they haven’t eaten enough.
However, the new federal lunch guidelines do mandate meals that are better for students, with less sodium, more whole grains, fewer calories, and more fruits and vegetables, as well as skim or 1 percent milk. These are a definite improvement over school lunches of not that many years ago, which once stuck with fare like burgers, French fries, and chicken nuggets. Some schools even allowed fast food outlets like McDonald’s and Pizza Hut to operate mini-restaurants in their cafeterias, or supply their products for students. Many schools have also reconsidered vending machines filled with sugary sodas, candy, and chips, replacing them with water and healthy snacks.

Answers

Answer:

Yes, the author of this article has an agenda. Her goal is to raise awareness of the unhealthy and unsatisfactory food that is served in school cafeterias and encourage parents and schools to make a change. She provides evidence to back up her claims, such as Zachary's story and the Kansas student's music video. She also acknowledges the improvements that have been made, such as the new federal lunch guidelines and the replacement of unhealthy snacks with healthier options. By citing examples and providing evidence, she successfully demonstrates that better food options are needed in school cafeterias.

Answers

I believe that school rules should be changed in order to create a more conducive learning environment for students. One rule I would change is the one restricting student access to technology during class time. With the rapid advancement of technology, it has become increasingly necessary for students to have access to their devices and use them appropriately in order to enhance their learning experience. Allowing limited but controlled usage of phones or laptops during lectures will help keep students engaged and provide them with an opportunity for further exploration into topics discussed in class. Additionally, allowing certain types of music can also improve focus levels among some learners who are easily distracted by background noise or silence; this could potentially lead towards better academic performance overall as well as improved mental health among all learners involved. Therefore, I strongly advocate that schools should consider changing existing rules regarding technology usage within classrooms so that they can benefit from its advantages while still maintaining a safe and productive learning atmosphere at all times.

Coatis realize that it is easier to seek out tourists than to search the forest for bugs. Like humans, they prefer junk food to what they should be eating. For their part, tourists do little to discourage the animals. After all, a coati drinking soda makes for a great vacation photo. What does it mean to deconstruct a play or other text? Why is deconstructing literature helpful when trying to find things like theme?

Answers

Answer:

deconstruction, form of philosophical and literary analysis, derived mainly from work begun in the 1960s by the French philosopher Jacques Derrida, that questions the fundamental conceptual distinctions, or “oppositions,” in Western philosophy through a close examination of the language and logic of philosophical and literary texts. In the 1970s the term was applied to work by Derrida, Paul de Man, J. Hillis Miller, and Barbara Johnson, among other scholars. In the 1980s it designated more loosely a range of radical theoretical enterprises in diverse areas of the humanities and social sciences, including—in addition to philosophy and literature—law, psychoanalysis, architecture, anthropology, theology, feminism, gay and lesbian studies, political theory, historiography, and film theory. In polemical discussions about intellectual trends of the late 20th-century, deconstruction was sometimes used pejoratively to suggest nihilism and frivolous skepticism. In popular usage the term has come to mean a critical dismantling of tradition and traditional modes of thought.
