“In the past four and one-half years, the Vietcong, the Communists, have lost 89,000 men,” he said. “You can see the heavy drain.”
That was a lie. McNamara knew the situation was “bad and deteriorating” in the South from confidential reports. “The VC has the initiative,” the information said. “Defeatism is gaining among the rural population, somewhat in the cities, and even among the soldiers.”
Lies like McNamara’s were the rule, not the exception, throughout America’s involvement in Vietnam. The lies were repeated to the public, Congress, closed-door hearings, speeches, and the press. The real story might have remained unknown if, in 1967, McNamara had not commissioned a secret history based on classified documents — which came to be known as the Pentagon Papers.

There are two types of evidence; namely, direct evidenceand circumstantial evidence.
Why are they effective?Direct evidence is proof of a fact based on personal knowledge or observation of that fact by a witness. A person’s guilt of a charged offense may be shown by direct evidence if such evidence, standing alone, convinces a jury beyond a reasonable doubt of the person’s guilt of that crime.
2. Circumstantial evidence is direct evidence of one fact from which another fact’s existence or nonexistence can be fairly inferred. Circumstantial evidence may be used to show a person’s guilt of a charged offense if the evidence, although not explicitly demonstrating guilt, raises an inference of guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.Assume that one of the parties in a trial is attempting to establish that it rained on a particular morning. A witness says that she was walking to the subway that morning when she noticed rain falling, felt it on her face, and heard it splashing on the sidewalk. Explanation: "The Greedy Squirrel"
Once there was a little squirrel he liked acorns a lot so he went out to look for some. Then he found a big pile of acorns, they looked very tasty. "I want them all," said the squirrel. While he was carrying the acorns home he met a wise old owl. The owl said, "That's a lot of nuts, they should last you all winter if you eat them slowly" But the squirrel said "I'll find some more later but for now I will eat all of these this summer" "But what will you eat in winter" said Owl "I'll find some more later" then the squirrel went home.
A week passed and the squirrel still did not get new nuts; he just kept eating the ones he had. Then a month passed, still no nuts. Then after 4 months it started to snow. The squirrel went to his house but to his surprise there were no acorns left to eat. He stayed 3 days without eating until it was too much for him so he went out to the snow to look for some acorns. Then he saw the wise old owl's house. It looked so warm and smelled so good so the squirrel knocked on the door. When the owl answered the door the squirrel said, "please help me, I have no food to eat" so the owl let him inside. He warmed up and the owl gave him some acorns then the squirrel left without even saying thanks.
When he got home he did not care that the owl told him to eat slowly so the acorns would last a long time. He gobbled the acorns up, they only lasted about a week, so he went to Owl's house again. Owl gave him more acorns but this time he said "That's all the acorns I have left so eat very slowly. And again the squirrel did not listen; he gobbled up all the acorns before a week even passed. The squirrel could not find anything else to eat so he ate snow for the rest of the winter. At last the squirrel learned his lesson, do not be greedy or you will end up eating snow.
Answer:
The Greedy Man
Once in a small town on an island there was a man named Dan. Now Dan was a good man but sometimes he was confused. He didn’t understand the meaning of good and bad. He also had a lot of money. One day he went out of his house to go and break into a building but when he got to the house he was going to break into, the house was illuminated. He went to another house where he found the lights off so Dan went in.
There he found lots like the kind of money that you could go your entire life without working, there were barrels full of it. Then he grabbed two barrels full of money. Left and ran back to his house. When he got there all the money from his last robbery (the one before this one) was all gone. He didn’t know what to do. He looked upstairs downstairs in the kitchen but he just couldn’t find it. Even though he had two barrels full of money he still wanted more.
So the next night at midnight Dan went to get more money. Then when he got to the building he stole from last time it was as full as before! “Perfect” he whispered “Now I’ll have doubled as much money”. Then he went for a barrel of money; it was as light as a feather. Haha I’m rich Dan thought.
He went back home, and got in bed. So reader, as you can see he was really greedy. Even though he had a bunch of money (two barrels of it) he still wanted more. He risked getting caught just for a barrel more, but I’m pretty sure he’ll pay for his mistakes.
The next day when he woke up he looked at all his money and said “I’m gonna go shoppin and buy a corvette” and that's just what he did. Then everyone in town was looking and talking about him. “Wow look at that car” “awesome dude” “where’d he get all the money” was what the people said. He was famous. Dan was even in the news! All that attention made him tired so he went to bed. He had to be just a tiny bit less asleep to hear someone walking downstairs.
In the morning he woke up and found that someone had gotten inside his house! He checked his safe and all the money was still there he checked the garage and the corvette was still there. Whew! What a relief he had when he couldn’t find anything stolen.
Then he went in his corvette to a car shop and said “I’m tired of my Corvette I want another car” so he bought a Lamborghini. He drove home with a tow truck pulling the Lamborghini. When he made it home he was tired so he went to bed.
When he woke up it was 1:25 am so he went to steal more money. This time he got to a house that had a chest full of gold and jewels even though he already had lots of money, he still wanted more, and more, and more. He got home and examined what he had stolen. There were 12 jewels, 4 gold nuggets and 146 gold coins. And then right when he was going to clean up the treasure and go to bed
policemen smashed through the door. “Hands up nobody move!” the policemen shouted,
Dan put his hands up. The policemen put Dan in the car and checked the house they found the barrels full of money and the chest of gold and jewels. Then they brought Dan to the station. Inside the police station Dan was shown to a room where there was an old man with a big puffy beard and green clothes then they asked Dan some questions and he figured out that the man with the beard was the one he stole the barrels from. The man with the beard was smart and had security cameras that caught him stealing.
He had to wait in the police station until morning so the judge could run his trial. In the cell he was thinking, trying to figure out what the police meant about him paying counterfeit money.
In the morning the judge said “Is there any proof that Dan did steal the money” then the police showed the tape of the security cameras, “ok” said the judge “Dan do you have anything to say about that” said the judge, “is that bowl of candies free?” Dan said, staring at a bowl of candies on a table. “hm” said the judge. “Ok Dan, you were accused of stealing and paying for a lamborghini with counterfeit money. “What?” Dan said confused “one day while you were sleeping Gus (the man with a beard) went to your house and changed the money you had stolen for counterfeit money.” Said the judge “Ohhh ok,” said Dan. “Now you will be paying for your crimes with 3 years in jail.” said the judge and from then on he was never greedy or never stole anything for the rest of his life. Dan was always grateful for what he had even though he didn’t have much.

Sharks' Teeth
By Langston Carter
The day we found the sharks' teeth was foggy and cool. Moisture hung in the air so thick you could almost see it sparkling in the dim sunlight. There were days, early in the summer like this one, where it seemed there was more water in the air than in the bay. We had beached the boat and stepped out on the recently cleared spit of land. The ground had a light dusting of white sand over an under layer of dried black mud. It looked like a recently frosted chocolate cake, though the frosting was spread a bit thin for my taste. The ground was solid, but we knew from experience that it was full of fiddler crab holes, and would be underwater at the first super-high tide. Mysteriously, to us anyway, someone wanted to build a house there.
We often came to these spots to look for artifacts. Our beach, our summer home, had been a fishing camp for as long as anyone living could remember. The oldest stories told of travelers coming down to the edge of the sea, lining up to fill their wagon beds with salted fish to take back home. Old decaying cabins still lined the beach. Rotting nets, hung out to dry in the last century, decorated their weathered walls. Their broken faces spun stories in our minds. The fishermen who, tanned and wrinkled from sun and salt, hauled their nets full of splashing mullet in to cheers from the waiting crowds. The bounty of the sea lightened everyone's hearts, and the smell of roasting fish filled the damp air. Women fanned themselves from wagon seats. Children splashed in the shallow edges of the bay. It was a scene we had acted out as youngsters, building an imaginary bridge to a life we would never fully know.

If two or more cells are connected together side by side, the voltage across them is sum of the voltage of each cell. This is because both cells are pushing same way.

If the sum lets say was 4.5v would every individual cell be worth 4.5 as it says in question ' voltage across them is the sum of voltage of each cell ' or are they each a different value? And how would we be able to find value?.
When two cells are connected in a series then the voltage of each cell sums up to give the total voltage of the circuit.
If the sum of the voltage of two cells is 4.5 V, each cell would not have 4.5 voltage. It is the total voltage across the circuit. If one needs to calculate the voltage across each cell then it can be calculated using the values of current and resistance in the circuit.
When series resistors are used, the current in each part of the circuit is the same or the same through each resistor, and in parallel combination, the voltage remains constant.

the absence of key or tonality in a musical composition is known as _________. group of answer choices a. ostinato. b. a tone cluster. c. atonality. d. polytonality.
Atonality is the absence of key or tonality in a musical piece. Option (c) is correct.
Music that lacks a tonal core, or key, is considered atonal in the broadest sense. Any musical composition that deviates from conventional Western standards of harmony, key, or mode is considered atonal music. It lacks a central tone or tonal center. Atonal music differs from its counterpart, tonal music, in that it contains irregular and discordant aural characteristics. Consonance, a pleasant sound or "sounding together," is its opponent.
Tonality, the musical system based on major and minor keys, is simply the absence of atonality. In general, music that deviates from tonal conventions is referred to as atonal music. These guidelines help to establish tonal hierarchies, or musical systems where some notes are more crucial than others. Atonality enthusiasts attempt to bend these conventions by giving each note a greater degree of importance.
