The resources that are used by the earth's elements are called as energy sources or alternative energy resources.

The energy can be extracted from the sources of the earth's crust that can be used in many ways for the day-to-day activities in human life. There are energy resources that can be obtained from different parts of the objects. There are two types of energy resource those are:

Renewable energyNon-renewable energy

The energy that can be re-used is called the renewable resources and the resources that can not be re-used is called is non-renewable resources. The renewable resources are available and can be recycled where as the non-renewable resources are limited and it gets over after few uses. The prime energy resources are extracted from the earth and it is then separated into different elements.

The alternate energy resources can be hydro energy, thermal energy, biomass, solar and wind energy. It is unlimited and the energy can be used until the earth extends. The wind energy is used for the purpose of lighting or electricity. It can be obtained by the nature by installing the windmills in the vast areas. The thermal energy is by the heat that is produced by the earth's crust. The heat that is generated from the bottom of the earth is extracted from the land.

The solar energy is one of the best and cost effective energy resources that provides the electricity to the area that has installed the solar panel. The sun rays are observed from the panels that has the solar cells that collects the heat and converts the energy into heat and later into the energy.

Next is the hydro energy, the energy is obtained by the spinning movement of the water.  The machine is fixed at the falls where by the force of the water the energy is collected from the turbine and then converts into the hydro energy. The biomass is also available from the natural resources that is from the cows dung that is collected in a place and future used as the energy.

The energy that is obtained from the renewable resources is cost effective and also can be made use many times. It also saves the minerals such as petroleum products that can be conserved for the next generations.

In this week's reading about Hetch Hetchy, Muir clearly has a different objective in mind than he does in the earlier, more idealistic readings we've also encountered. In contrast to the images of godly, flighty idealism shown in the other readings, Muir works to bring readers to his position that this beautiful valley in the Yosemite should be left alone. He uses a number of strategies to achieve this goal, and in today's discussion posting I'd like you to identify those two strategies that seem most evident in your reading. How does Muir establish his argument that this place of natural beauty should be saved, and what kinds of images help him to achieve this goal? In short, what forces is he "up against," and how does he offer reply to these? How do his ideas connect, and how do they contrast, with those of Gifford Pinchot and the landscape architect Frederick Law Olmsted (this latter figure isn't assigned, but he's responsible for many of the great planned landscapes in American cities, like New York's Central Park), who also advocate--in comparable ways--for "nature spaces" that should serve the people? Be sure to cite specific sentences and passages in your posting, which is worth up to fifteen points and should cover about 3/4 of a page. And up to five points for two replies, which should also be developed to a proper degree ( 3−4 sentences).

Answers

Muir establishes his argument for preserving the Hetch Hetchy Valley by employing two key strategies:

emphasizing the beauty and uniqueness of the natural landscape and highlighting the destructive consequences of its potential development. Through vivid descriptions and passionate language, Muir portrays Hetch Hetchy as a place of unparalleled beauty that deserves protection. For example, he writes, "Surely all God's people, however serious or savage, great or small, like to play in landscape gardens — God's first temples" (Muir). By invoking religious imagery and comparing the valley to a sacred space, Muir appeals to readers' emotional and spiritual connections to nature, encouraging them to see Hetch Hetchy as a place worth preserving.

Additionally, Muir emphasizes the potential loss and irreparable damage that would result from damming the valley. He describes the destruction of the natural landscape and wildlife habitat, stating, "No holier temple has ever been consecrated by the heart of man" (Muir). By framing Hetch Hetchy as a unique and irreplaceable natural treasure, Muir argues against its development, emphasizing the loss that would be incurred by sacrificing such a pristine environment.

Muir's ideas contrast with the viewpoints of Gifford Pinchot and Frederick Law Olmsted. While all three advocate for the preservation of nature spaces, Muir's stance is more focused on the intrinsic value of wilderness and its preservation for its own sake. In contrast, Pinchot and Olmsted view nature spaces as resources that can provide benefits and serve the people. Pinchot, as a proponent of utilitarian conservation, emphasizes the sustainable use of natural resources for the greatest good for the greatest number. Olmsted, as a landscape architect, believed in creating urban parks for the betterment of society and the enhancement of the urban environment. While Muir's argument centers on the preservation of nature for its intrinsic value, Pinchot and Olmsted prioritize the utilitarian and societal benefits derived from nature spaces.

compare the size of the print to the size of the rods and cones in the fovea and discuss the possible details observable in the letters.

Answers

a. The image of the print on the retina is approximately 0.022 cm (or 0.22 mm) in height. b. Overall, while the sizes of rods and cones in the fovea limit the details observable in the print image, the eye-brain system can overcome these limitations to extract meaningful information from the text.

(a) Using the thin lens equation, we can calculate the image distance from the lens:

1/f = 1/do + 1/di

where f is the focal length of the eye lens, do is the object distance (distance of the book from the eye), and di is the image distance (distance of the image from the eye lens).

Since the lens-to-retina distance is 2.00 cm, the focal length of the eye lens is approximately 2.00 cm. In the values given:

1/0.020 = 1/0.300 + 1/di

Solving for di:

di = 0.022 cm

(b) The sizes of rods and cones in the fovea are on the order of 2-3 micrometers (μm), which is much smaller than the height of the print image on the retina. This means that the details observable in the letters are limited by the size and density of the photoreceptors in the fovea, rather than by the size of the image.

However, the eye-brain system can perform better due to interconnections and higher order image processing. The brain can integrate information from multiple photoreceptors to enhance spatial resolution and contrast sensitivity. Additionally, the brain can fill in missing information (such as gaps between letters) to form a coherent percept of the text.

Please write a review of the summary and reflection below:
SUMMARY
The article discusses the way in which scientist are beginning to reexamine the link between gene mutations and inheritable disease. The article cites a study that found that humans have an average of over 50 gene mutations, but most are not harmful. The article discusses a specific genetic variant that was linked to kidney failure until a doctor, who had a patient with this mutation and kidney issues, discovered that he had previously come across several people in a study that had the same genetic variance but did not present with kidney issues. This has caused researchers to question their previous methods for linking genetic variations and diseases and caused many to call for more research and the development of new methods of identifying and linking these variations in human genome and resulting medical issues.
REFLECTION
This article is interesting and a little scary. When we go to the doctor, we all just assume that the science is infallible, and the doctors know what they are doing. Stories like this remind us just how much we have yet to understand about the human body. With 20,000-25,000 genes, its surprising that scientist could even sequence DNA, let alone find specific variants. Collecting more information on the human genome will give scientist valuable insight into hereditary diseases but concluding inaccurate findings could prove disastrous. It would be interesting if this research could tell us the exact roll that different environmental conditions play in human development and the prevalence of different issues as well. By understanding and controlling for genetic variants, the long-term effects that environment has on humans’ health and behavior should become clearer. The most terrifying idea that I can’t help but think about is that of CRISPR. As we go though this chapter and especially reading this article, I can’t help but think how close it feels to becoming a reality. Hopefully if scientists are able to locate specific abnormalities and link them to diseases or disorders, they will be able to effectively use gene editing to dramatically raise the rate of healthy births.

Answers

The summary provides a clear and concise overview of the article, highlighting the key points about the reexamination of the link between gene mutations and inheritable diseases. The author also provides a thoughtful reflection on the implications of the research, considering both the potential benefits and risks of genetic research and gene-editing technologies. The reflection raises important questions about the limitations of current scientific understanding and the potential for future advances in genetics research to improve human health. Overall, the summary and reflection provide a balanced and insightful analysis of the article.
