Sharon felt compelled to apologize. "I'm sorry, Marina," she said. "I'm just upset. I don't have enough time to bake yet another cake for Bryan. We have to find this one! It couldn't have disappeared into thin air!"

What is point of view?

In literature, point of view refers to the narrator's perspective. Every story has a narrator, the person who tells it, and each narrator has a point of view. To identify the point of view, we can pay attention to the following:

If the narrator uses first-person pronouns such as "I" or "we", then we have a first-person point of view.If the narrator uses second-person pronouns such as "you" or "your", then it is the second-person point of view. Finally, if the narrator uses third-person pronouns such as "he" or "she", we have a third-person point of view.

After reading the excerpt provided in the question, we can conclude that the narrator is using a third-person point of view. We clearly have the use of "he", and the narrator is talking about someone else - Hungry Joe.

Read the excerpt from "The Turnip." Then answer the question that follows.

There were two brothers who were both soldiers; the one was rich and the other poor. The poor man thought he would try to better himself; so, pulling off his red coat, he became a gardener, and dug his ground well, and sowed turnips.
When the seed came up, there was one plant bigger than all the rest; and it kept getting larger and larger, and seemed as if it would never cease growing; so that it might have been called the prince of turnips for there never was such a one seen before, and never will again. At last it was so big that it filled a cart, and two oxen could hardly draw it; and the gardener knew not what in the world to do with it, nor whether it would be a blessing or a curse to him. One day he said to himself, 'What shall I do with it? if I sell it, it will bring no more than another; and for eating, the little turnips are better than this; the best thing perhaps is to carry it and give it to the king as a mark of respect.'
Then he yoked his oxen, and drew the turnip to the court, and gave it to the king. 'What a wonderful thing!' said the king; 'I have seen many strange things, but such a monster as this I never saw. Where did you get the seed? or is it only your good luck? If so, you are a true child of fortune.' 'Ah, no!' answered the gardener, 'I am no child of fortune; I am a poor soldier, who never could get enough to live upon; so I laid aside my red coat, and set to work, tilling the ground. I have a brother, who is rich, and your majesty knows him well, and all the world knows him; but because I am poor, everybody forgets me.'
The king then took pity on him, and said, 'You shall be poor no longer. I will give you so much that you shall be even richer than your brother.' Then he gave him gold and lands and flocks, and made him so rich that his brother's fortune could not at all be compared with his.
When the brother heard of all this, and how a turnip had made the gardener so rich, he envied him sorely, and bethought himself how he could contrive to get the same good fortune for himself. However, he determined to manage more cleverly than his brother, and got together a rich present of gold and fine horses for the king; and thought he must have a much larger gift in return; for if his brother had received so much for only a turnip, what must his present be worth?

How does the author use juxtaposition in this excerpt to develop the reader's perspective on the characters?

The characterization of the rich brother as greedy contrasts with the description of the poor brother as hardworking, which makes the reader angry that the wealthy brother isn't content with what he has.
The description of the poor brother as angry contrasts with the characterization of the wealthy brother as kind, which makes the reader dislike the poor brother.
The generous nature of the wealthy brother contrasts with the lazy nature of the poor brother, which makes the reader understand why the wealthy brother is upset.

Answers

The statement that best restates the main idea of the quotation is: "People may feel better once they read, though sometimes they will not." Option 4 is correct.

The quotation suggests that reading a good book does not always make people feel better and may even make them feel worse. However, the main idea is not that people should learn to read to learn from their mistakes or that reading is only for difficult times.

The main idea is that reading is not a guaranteed source of comfort and may not always lead to positive emotions. While it is possible that people may feel better after reading, it is not a certainty, and sometimes reading can have the opposite effect.

Therefore, the statement "People may feel better once they read, though sometimes they will not" accurately summarizes the main idea of the quotation. Hence Option 4 is correct.

In the character Lady Capulet, create a journal entry in which she delivers her opinions on the responsibilities of children to their parents and their families

Answers

A journal is a private space where you can scribble down your ideas, emotions, and thoughts, including happiness and rage, hope and despair, enthusiasm and depression, love and sadness.

What is a journal?

Dear Journal,

Today I have been pondering the subject of the responsibilities of children to their parents and their families. It is a topic that is close to my heart, for I am a mother myself and have always strived to instill in my daughter, Juliet, the importance of honor, obedience, and respect towards her family. In my opinion, children have a duty to their parents and families to follow the path that has been set for them. Whether it be through arranged marriages, chosen careers, or simply following the rules and customs of our society, it is the responsibility of the young to obey and honor the wishes of their elders. I believe that this obedience is what maintains order and stability in families and in society as a whole. When children do as they are told, they bring peace and unity to their families, and when families are at peace, society flourishes. However, I also understand that there are times when children may have their own ideas and desires that diverge from those of their parents. It is during these moments that children must show their respect and honor for their families by still complying with their parent's wishes. I will always do my best to guide Juliet down the right path, to make sure that she grows into a woman who understands her responsibilities to her family. And I pray that she will follow in my footsteps and pass these values on to her own children one day.

In conclusion, I firmly believe that children have a responsibility to their parents and families to be obedient, respectful, and honor their wishes, and I will do all in my power to ensure that this is instilled in my daughter.

Yours truly,

Lady Capulet
