What is the main idea of this excerpt of Abraham Lincoln’s Second Inaugural Address?

On the occasion corresponding to this four years ago, all thoughts were anxiously directed to an impending civil-war. All dreaded it — all sought to avert it. While the inaugural address was being delivered from this place, devoted altogether to saving the Union without war, insurgent agents were in the city seeking to destroy it without war — seeking to dissolve the Union, and divide effects, by negotiation. Both parties deprecated war; but one of them would make war rather than let the nation survive; and the other would accept war rather than let it perish. And the war came.

A.
Both the Union and the Confederacy wanted to destroy their enemy.
B.
Both the Union and the Confederacy were responsible for the Civil War.
C.
Both the Union and the Confederacy desired total authority by eliminating the other.
D.
Both the Union and the Confederacy suffered huge economic losses due to the Civil War.
E.
Both the Union and the Confederacy had stockpiled deadly weapons for the Civil War.

(1) Do not go gentle into that good night,
Old age should burn and rave at close of day;
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

(2) Though wise men at their end know dark is right,
Because their words had forked no lightning they
Do not go gentle into that good night.

(3) Good men, the last wave by, crying how bright
Their frail deeds might have danced in a green bay,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

(4) Wild men who caught and sang the sun in flight,
And learn, too late, they grieved it on its way,
Do not go gentle into that good night.

(5) Grave men, near death, who see with blinding sight
Blind eyes could blaze like meteors and be gay,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

(6) And you, my father, there on the sad height,
Curse, bless, me now with your fierce tears, I pray.
Do not go gentle into that good night.
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Answer:

He shifts from speaking about other men to speaking about his father.

Explanation:

In this poem by Dylan Thomas, the poet offered his views and beliefs on how best he felt that death should be tackled. Speaking generally, he noted how wise men, wild men, and grave men handled the reality of death. They never stopped fighting. At the concluding part of the poem, he more specifically narrowed the talk about the different types of men to his father who was apparently in his death bed.

He urged and strengthened his father to fight death which was upon him. He did not want his father to give up.

Marty McFly has been flung into the future and found himself in a tiff with Biff. During the hoverboard chase scene, Marty jumps on a hoverboard, grabs onto a car to gain increasing speed, releases from the car after a time, and attempt to traverse a pond to escape Biff. Marty starts from rest and grabs onto an accelerating rocket car, accelerating on his hoverboard at a rate of 15.5 m/s
2
in the forward direction until releasing from the car 2.5 seconds later. He then uses this new-found speed to attempt to traverse a pond, floating forward on the hoverboard, which has started experiencing a 6.55 m/s
2
backward acceleration due to air drag. He eventually comes to a stop. (a) What is Marty's maximum speed during his ride? 1 (b) How long does it take for Marty to come to a stop after releasing from the accelerating car? (c) What total distance has Marty traveled from the moment the chase started until the moment he came to a stop? Will he be able to traverse the 200 m pond?

Answers

(a) Marty's maximum speed during his ride is 38.75 m/s.

(b) It takes Marty 10 seconds to come to a stop after releasing from the accelerating car.

(c) Marty has traveled a total distance of 137.5meters from the moment the chase started until the moment he came to a stop. No, he will not be able to traverse the 200-meter pond.

(a) To determine Marty's maximum speed during his ride, we need to calculate the velocity he reaches while accelerating on the hoverboard. Marty experiences an acceleration of 15.5 m/s² in the forward direction for a duration of 2.5 seconds. Using the equation of motion v = u + at, where v is the final velocity, u is the initial velocity, a is the acceleration, and t is the time, we can calculate the velocity as follows:

v = 0 + (15.5 m/s²)(2.5 s) = 38.75 m/s

Therefore, Marty's maximum speed during his ride is 38.75 m/s.

(b) To determine the time it takes for Marty to come to a stop after releasing from the accelerating car, we need to consider the deceleration caused by air drag on the hoverboard. Marty experiences a backward acceleration of 6.55 m/s². Using the equation of motion v = u + at, where v is the final velocity, u is the initial velocity, a is the acceleration, and t is the time, we can calculate the time it takes for Marty to come to a stop:

0 = 38.75 m/s + (-6.55 m/s²)t

Rearranging the equation and solving for t, we get:

t = 38.75 m/s / 6.55 m/s² = 5.92 s

Therefore, it takes Marty approximately 10 seconds (2.5 seconds of acceleration + 5.92 seconds of deceleration) to come to a stop after releasing from the accelerating car.

(c) To determine the total distance Marty has traveled from the moment the chase started until the moment he came to a stop, we need to calculate the distance covered during acceleration and deceleration separately. During acceleration, we can use the equation of motion s = ut + (1/2)at^2, where s is the distance, u is the initial velocity, a is the acceleration, and t is the time. Using this equation, we find:

s1 = 0 + (1/2)(15.5 m/s²)(2.5 s)² = 48.44 m

During deceleration, we can again use the same equation, but with the negative value of acceleration, since it is in the opposite direction. Therefore, we have:

s2 = 0 + (1/2)(-6.55 m/s²)(5.92 s)² = -89.06 m

The negative sign indicates that Marty has traveled in the opposite direction during deceleration.

Adding the distances traveled during acceleration and deceleration, we get:

Total distance = |s1| + |s2| = 48.44 m + 89.06 m = 137.5 m

Therefore, Marty has traveled a total distance of 137.5 meters from the moment the chase started until the moment he came to a stop. Unfortunately, this means he will not be able to traverse the 200-meter pond.

The mood at the beginning of chapter thirteen was that of melancholy that remains throughout the chapter.

What is Melancholy?

The term "melancholia" or "melancholy" refers to a condition marked by a significantly depressed mood, physical complaints, and occasionally hallucinations and delusions. It is derived from the Greek "o" melaina chole, which means "black bile" and is used throughout ancient, medieval, and premodern medicine in Europe.

Related terms in historical medicine include moroseness, from the Latin word morosus, which means "self-will or fastidious habit," lugubriousness, from the verb lugere, "to mourn," and wistfulness.

The term "melancholia" derives from an outdated medical theory known as the "four senses of humor," which holds that one or more of the body's four primary liquids, or senses of humor, must be in balance for sickness or condition to manifest.

Otherwise, the procedure should display a result set that displays a message that says The number of paid invoices is less than 50.

Answers

The script uses PL/SQL variables to store invoice count and average invoice total, displaying the results if count >= 50 or a message if count < 50.

Write a PL/SQL script to calculate the average invoice total and count the number of invoices in the "invoices" table, displaying the results based on the count condition?

The given task requires writing a PL/SQL script to calculate the average invoice total and count the number of invoices in the "invoices" table. The script should display the results based on the condition: if the count is greater than or equal to 50, it should display the count and average invoice total; otherwise, it should display a message stating that the number of paid invoices is less than 50.

Here's an example of how the script could be written:

sql

DECLARE

 v_count NUMBER;

 v_avg_invoice_total NUMBER;

BEGIN

 SELECT COUNT(*) INTO v_count FROM invoices;

 SELECT AVG(invoice_total) INTO v_avg_invoice_total FROM invoices;

 IF v_count >= 50 THEN

   DBMS_OUTPUT.PUT_LINE('The invoice count is ' || v_count || ' and the average invoice total is $' || v_avg_invoice_total);

 ELSE

   DBMS_OUTPUT.PUT_LINE('The number of paid invoices is less than 50');

 END IF;

END;

/

In this script, the variables `v_count` and `v_avg_invoice_total` are declared to store the count and average invoice total, respectively. The `SELECT` statements retrieve the values from the "invoices" table and assign them to the variables. Then, an `IF` statement is used to check the count and display the appropriate message using the `DBMS_OUTPUT.PUT_LINE` function.

Note that the `DBMS_OUTPUT.PUT_LINE` function is used to display the output in the console. Make sure to enable the output display in your SQL client to see the results.

Genetically modified organisms (GMOs) are living organisms that have been genetically altered in some way through genetic engineering. There are a few ethical concerns or benefits of using GMOs based on the Christian Worldview.

Ethical concerns of using GMOs based on the Christian Worldview are:

1. Playing God: Some people argue that altering the genes of living organisms is tantamount to playing God, and it is unethical to do so. It is believed that God created the world and all the creatures in it, and it is not man's place to modify God's creation.

2. Negative Environmental Impact: There is a possibility that GMOs could have a negative impact on the environment. If the genes of a plant are altered, the plant could become invasive and spread rapidly, which could lead to other plants being pushed out of their natural habitat. Imagine what it would be like to live in a world where everyone is treated the same no matter what. Is this a world you would want to live in? Why or why not?

Answers

Explanation:

It depends on the approach. There are many kinds of equality, same as there are many kinds of democracies (USA democracy isnt the same than Athenian democracy or Iroquois “Great Peace".)

The thing is, it depends at what level we talk about equality.

There is some kind of equality that gives everyone exactly the same. If you give everyone a TV, middle class will be happy, poors wont have electricity to use it and rich wouldnt care about a simple TV when they have much more.

This kind of equality is in my opinion suboptimal.

Then you have absolute equality, which means everyone should be treated exactly the same by all means. This doesnt work.

We are specialized people. Not only from the economic point of view but also as individuals. Each one of us have different needs and goals. This fits with the way our societies are. The more a society becomes advanced, the more its individuals adquire particular jobs unique to themselves. This is division of labor (First you had chief > tribal member , societies developed and after a while they had Rulers of the Chiefdom > Chiefs of particular tribes > War captains > Warriors > Civilians, each time the societies become larger and more relevant, the division of tasks is even more. There was also division of work between members of the same level of herarchy, like farmer/hunter for civilians) so this basically means that in our era, there is so much different stuff we need as a society, that each person should dedicate to one specific need, his/her own thing. We cant be equal, because a programmer doesnt need the same things than an artist. A person with mental health issues needs different kind of help than a poor person.

This leads us to the true Equality.

Short answer.

Yes because no body will feel left and out. There will be no bulling, racism, or sexism. The world will be fair to everyone. This will be better for us because then everyone is happy.
