what is the main shortcoming of the life-span perspective on human development?
The life-span perspective on human development does not take into account the cultural and social context in which development occurs. It tends to emphasize individual growth and development without considering the impact of larger societal factors such as social norms, values, and institutions on human development. Additionally, it may overlook the impact of historical and generational differences on development. Therefore, the main shortcoming of the life-span perspective is its limited consideration of the larger socio-cultural factors that shape human development.

Suburbanization or suburban flight are terms used by sociologists to describe the phenomena of middle-class people leaving cities for the suburbs.
Suburbanization is the process through which urban centres are surrounded by suburban areas as more and more people, particularly those from middle-class backgrounds, move there. Numerous issues, such as worries about crime, pollution, overcrowding, and a desire for better living circumstances, have contributed to this tendency. The perception of the suburbs is frequently that they provide a safer, cleaner environment with larger homes, access to wildlife, and an overall higher standard of living. Significant social, economic, and spatial repercussions of suburban exodus include patterns of residential segregation, infrastructure growth, and resource distribution. Conduct some research (online or offline) to learn more about how the economy affects society and vice versa. List and explain some of the contemporary economic problems that affect society (and vice versa). Some of the issues you could explore are unemployment, drug abuse, homelessness, health care, and illegal immigration
Answer:The US economy faces numerous social problems. At the root of these problems is poverty. Homelessness, unemployment, and crime generally occur among the poorer sections of society. However, some social problems, such as drug abuse, exist in all classes of society. All social problems affect the economic status of the people living in that society. Let’s look at the interrelationships of some social and economic problems in the United States.
Illegal immigration: Illegal immigration is a major social issue today. The government estimates that approximately 11 million people in the United States are illegal immigrants. The problem with illegal immigrants is that they work in low-skilled jobs and do not earn enough income to pay taxes to cover the government benefits they would obtain as citizens. If they receive amnesty, as proposed in the immigration reform bill, these illegal immigrants would receive all welfare and medical benefits offered by the government, which would increase the government’s expenses.
While those promoting amnesty for illegal immigrants contend that the kinds of jobs performed by illegal immigrants are plentiful, those who oppose a mass amnesty cite studies that show that the reality is quite different. Research done by the Center for Immigration Studies shows that close to half of unemployed American citizens only have up to a high school education. Illegal immigrants may be competing directly with these American citizens for jobs. However, those promoting amnesty feel that it will resolve the illegal immigration issue. They point to the practical impossibility of deporting 11 million people, declaring that bringing these people into the mainstream of American life will help the economy in the long term.
Drug abuse: Another social issue facing the United States is drug abuse. This social problem may cause a number of consequences. From an economic perspective, we can look at three outcomes: criminal behavior, health problems, and reduced productivity. The criminal nature of this social problem means that many who receive convictions for drug use will go to prison. It also incurs expenses: costs incurred because of the criminal nature of drug abuse stem from the criminal justice system, and costs incurred by victims of crimes committed by drug abusers.
Drug abuse begins with experimentation, moves to recreational use, and ultimately shifts to dependency. At the stage of dependency, health issues may surface that require medical care. Health costs include hospitalization, emergency care, and insurance costs. Drug use impairs a person’s physical and mental faculties. This may result in loss of productivity due to illness or hospitalization. Productivity loss also includes the loss suffered by the victims of any crimes committed by drug users. Productivity costs include costs incurred due to loss of labor. According to a 2011 report of the US Department of Justice, which based its research on data from 2007, the total cost of illicit drug use amounts to $193 billion. A large amount of this cost is due to loss of productivity.
Economic status and health care: A person’s economic status affects the person’s health in three ways. It determines the quality of health care the person is likely to receive, the type of environment the person lives in and any subsequent health hazards, and the person’s attitude toward health. Studies show that people who have not completed high school are more likely not to have health insurance. These people will receive less medical care and will most likely not receive screening for early detection of diseases.
People from a lower economic status tend to live in areas with cheaper housing. These areas are often worse off in terms of environmental pollution because businesses situate many factories and waste disposal plants in these areas. This further puts the health of individuals residing in these areas at risk. Finally, economically disadvantaged people are often hesitant to seek medical help for screening, pre-diagnosis, or even at the initial stages of an onset of illness for fear of medical costs. Delays in obtaining medical help often make an illness worse, which then requires healthcare professionals to render additional expensive medical aid to cure the illness.
From the above examples, we can clearly see that social and economic issues have a close relationship. Social issues often have major economic implications for the individual and society. Moreover, economic problems often cause major social issues, as seen in the example of health care.

Which of the following is a main class of organic compounds?
All living organisms consist mostly of the following four kinds or categories of organic compounds: carbohydrates, lipids, proteins, and nucleic acids.
What are organic compounds?Organic compounds are, at their most basic, chemicals that contain carbon and hydrogen. These substances are referred to as organic since it was originally thought that they came from living beings, however, this is not always the case.
There are countless chemical compounds that can be created artificially or spontaneously. The building blocks of life's components, such as carbohydrates, fats (lipids), proteins, and nucleic acids, are examples of organic substances. Petroleum and natural gas, which make up the majority of fossil fuels, are also organic molecules.
There are two major categories that apply to organic substances. Compounds with only hydrogen and carbon atoms are known as hydrocarbons. They can also be divided into alkanes (which only have one carbon bond), alkenes (which have two carbon bonds), alkynes (which have three carbon bonds), and arenes (which have four carbon bonds).

TEXT: The first effect of the creation of the 13 colonies was that Britain grew very rich. Each colony now had productive farms and new towns growing as trading posts. Britain profited from these by taxation. Everything grown, bought or sold in the American Colonies was somehow taxed by Britain.
Another effect was the British Colonies became destinations for thousands of immigrants from England and elsewhere in Europe. Wealthy Europeans were eager to claim new land for plantations or make fortunes from trade in the new cities. Middle-class European farmers hoped they could get new farmland of their own. Many poor English and Scots-Irish settlers hoped they could find better lives in America working as indentured servants and hopefully purchasing land of their own someday.
Every new English colony was a new disaster for the Native Americans. The forests they hunted were cut down to make way for farms and plantations. More and more tribes became pushed off their land, either being cheated by false negotiations, or forced out with violence. When tribes fought back, the English settlers would retaliate harshly with gunfire and arson, burning entire villages to the ground. Worse still was the invisible killer that British settlers brought with them: diseases like smallpox and plague, which spread among native tribes quickly and for which they had no immunity or treatments. Sometimes, colonists would give infected blankets to natives to spread diseases on purpose. Ultimately for the native tribes, the effects of British settlement in America were tragic and irreversible. By the mid 1700s, most tribes had nearly vanished from the Atlantic coast.
The final effect of the British Colonies was the introduction of slavery to North America. The first kidnapped Africans in the American Colonies were brought to Jamestown as slaves to work in the new tobacco plantations. Slavery would spread throughout the new colonies, with cities as far north as New York being used as trading posts for slave auctions. Mainly however, slavery was much more concentrated in the southern colonies, which had large tobacco and rice plantations requiring many laborers. In the Southern Colonies, African people were simply considered property. Laws in Maryland only referred to Africans in terms of planters’ property rights. A Virginia law in 1642 punished people for hiding runaway slaves or indentured servants. Free blacks were eventually permitted to live and own property in northern colonies, and slavery in the north slowly became outlawed. In the south, however, the plantation economies of the colonies depended almost completely on slave labor.
