The first three terms of a sequence are given. Round to the nearest thousandth (if
necessary).
2, 7, 12,...
Find the 46th term.

Answers

Answer: 227

Step-by-step explanation:

To find the 46th term of the sequence, we need to first determine the pattern of the sequence. We can see that the sequence increases by 5 between each consecutive term. Therefore, the common difference of the sequence is 5.

Using this information, we can find the \(n\)th term of the sequence using the formula:

\(\Large \boxed{an = a1 + d(n-1)}\)

where

\(an = \text{nth term of the sequence}\)\(a1 = \text{first term of the sequence}\)\(d = \text{common difference}\)

Using the given terms, we have:

\(a1 = 2\)\(d = 5\)

To find the 46th term, we substitute \(n = 46\) into the formula:

\(a46 = 2 + 5(46-1)\)\(a46 = 2 + 225\)\(a46 = 227\)

Therefore, the 46th term of the sequence is 227.

________________________________________________________

SOLUTION:

To find the pattern in the sequence, we can observe that each term is obtained by adding 5 to the previous term. Therefore, we can write the recursive formula for the sequence as:

\(\large a_1 = 2\)

\(\large a_n = a_{n-1} + 5\)

To find the 46th term, we can use the recursive formula to generate each term until we reach the desired term:

\(\large a_1 = 2\)

\(\large a_2 = a_1 + 5 = 2 + 5 = 7\)

\(\large a_3 = a_2 + 5 = 7 + 5 = 12\)

\(\large a_4 = a_3 + 5 = 12 + 5 = 17\)

\(\vdots\)

\(\large a_{46} = a_{45} + 5 \approx \boxed{227}\)

\(\therefore\) The 46th term of the sequence is approximately 227.

We can also write the explicit formula for the sequence as:

\(\large a_n = 5n - 3\)

To verify that this formula generates the same sequence as the recursive formula, we can substitute the value of n = 1, 2, 3, etc. and compare the results.

Step-by-step explanation:

You want to know how many points on the interval [0, 5] the function f(x) = e^(2x) have a slope equal to the average slope.

Rate of change

The instantaneous rate of change of function f(x) is its derivative:

  f'(x) = 2e^(2x)

This is a continuously increasing function (as is f(x)), so in any given interval there will be only one point that has any given slope.

The Mean Value Theorem says there is at least one point in the interval with the same slope as the average slope. The nature of the derivative tells you there is exactly one point with the same slope as the average slope.

Where

The average rate of change on [0, 5] is ...

  AROC = (e^(2·5) -e^(2·0))/(5 -0) = (e^10 -1)/5

The instantaneous rate of change will have that value where ...

  f'(x) = 2e^(2x) = (e^10 -1)/5

  2x = ln((e^10 -1)/10)

  x = ln((e^10 -1)/10)/2 ≈ 3.84868475302

For this value of x, f'(x) = AROC

a line is drawn through (–4, 3) and (4, 3). which describes whether or not the line represents a direct variation? the line represents a direct variation because

Answers

The line represents a direct variation because the y-coordinate (3) is the same for both points (-4, 3) and (4, 3).

In a direct variation, when one variable increases or decreases, the other variable also increases or decreases in a consistent ratio. In this case, since the y-coordinate remains the same for both points, it indicates that there is a direct variation between the x-coordinate and the y-coordinate of the points on the line.

To determine if a line represents a direct variation, we need to check if the ratio of the y-coordinates to the x-coordinates is constant for all points on the line.

In this case, the y-coordinates of both points are 3, and the x-coordinates are -4 and 4.

Let's calculate the ratio of the y-coordinates to the x-coordinates for each point:

For the first point (-4, 3):
Ratio = 3 / -4 = -3/4

For the second point (4, 3):
Ratio = 3 / 4 = 3/4

Since the ratio of the y-coordinates to the x-coordinates is the same for both points (-3/4 and 3/4), we can conclude that the line represents a direct variation.

Central conservative forces: (a) Consider the force F= r2kr^ : Is this force conservative? Is it central? If it is conservative find the potential energy V(r). For full marks you need to justify your answer and explain any assumptions that you make.

Answers

The force F = r^2k(r^) is not conservative because its curl is nonzero. The force is central because it depends only on r and acts along the radial direction. Since it is not conservative, there is no potential energy function V(r) associated with this force

To determine whether the force F = r^2k(r^) is conservative and central, let's analyze its properties.

A force is conservative if it satisfies the condition ∇ × F = 0, where ∇ is the gradient operator. In Cartesian coordinates, the force can be written as F = Fx i + Fy j + Fz k, where Fx, Fy, and Fz are the components of the force in the x, y, and z directions, respectively. The curl of F is given by:

∇ × F = (∂Fz/∂y - ∂Fy/∂z)i + (∂Fx/∂z - ∂Fz/∂x)j + (∂Fy/∂x - ∂Fx/∂y)k.

Calculating the components of F = r^2k(r^):

Fx = 0, since there is no force component in the x-direction.

Fy = 0, since there is no force component in the y-direction.

Fz = r^2kr^.

Taking the partial derivatives, we have:

∂Fz/∂x = ∂/∂x (r^2kr^) = 2rkr^2(∂r/∂x) = 2rkr^2(x/r) = 2xkr^3.

∂Fz/∂y = ∂/∂y (r^2kr^) = 2rkr^2(∂r/∂y) = 2rkr^2(y/r) = 2ykr^3.

Substituting these values into the curl equation, we get:

∇ × F = (2ykr^3 - 2xkr^3)k = 2k(r^3y - r^3x).

Since the curl of F is not zero, ∇ × F ≠ 0, we conclude that the force F = r^2k(r^) is not conservative.

Now let's determine if the force is central. A force is central if it depends only on the distance from the origin (r) and acts along the radial direction (r^).

For F = r^2k(r^), the force is indeed central because it depends solely on r (the magnitude of the position vector) and acts along the radial direction r^. Hence, it can be written as F = Fr(r^), where Fr is a function of r.

Since the force is not conservative, it does not possess a potential energy function. In conservative forces, the potential energy function V(r) can be defined, and the force can be expressed as the negative gradient of the potential energy, i.e., F = -∇V. However, since F is not conservative, there is no potential energy function associated with it.

The short sides of a rectangle are 2 inches. The long sides of the same rectangle are three less than an unknown number of inches.

If the area of the rectangle is 22 square inches, what is the value of the unknown number?

inches

Answers

The answer is unknown number of inches for the long sides is 14.

Let's solve this problem step by step. We know that the short sides of the rectangle are 2 inches. Let's denote the unknown number of inches for the long sides as 'x'. According to the problem, the long sides are three less than this unknown number, so the length of the long sides can be expressed as 'x - 3'.

The area of a rectangle is given by the formula A = length × width. In this case, the area is given as 22 square inches, and the width (short side) is 2 inches. We can now set up the equation:

22 = 2 × (x - 3)

Simplifying the equation, we have:

22 = 2x - 6

Adding 6 to both sides, we get:

28 = 2x

The shop employs three "tune up" technicians, one "additional services" technician, and two wheel balancing" specialists. Past data indicates that 25% of customers opt for the "additional services" option. Wheel Tune Up Balancing T = 75 T= 20 minutes minutes Additional Services T = 72 minutes a) Create a demand matrix for this process b) What will be the daily capacity at each stage of the process? c) Find the implied utilizations for each stage of the process. d) What will be the weekly capacity of the process? e) Is the flow rate of this process capacity-constrained or demand-constrained?

Answers

A bicycle repair shop that offers two service packages: a tune-up and a complete overhaul.

The shop operates for 60 hours per week and receives an average of 180 bicycles each week. To analyze the capacity and utilization of the process, we need to consider the time taken at each stage and the demand for each service option. We'll break down the problem into multiple parts and provide a detailed explanation using mathematical terms.

a) Creating the Demand Matrix:

To create a demand matrix, we need to determine the number of bicycles going through each stage of the process. Let's denote the demand for tune-up as T and the demand for additional services as A.

Given that the average number of bicycles received per week is 180 and 25% of customers opt for additional services, we can calculate the demands as follows:

Demand for tune-up (T) = Total demand - Demand for additional services

T = 180 - (0.25 * 180)

T = 180 - 45

T = 135

Demand for additional services (A) = 0.25 * Total demand

A = 0.25 * 180

A = 45

Now, we can create a demand matrix based on the demand for each service option:

Demand Matrix:

Tune-up Additional Services Wheel Balancing

Tune-up  [135  0  0]

Additional [0  45  0]

Services

Total [ 135  45  0 ]

The demand matrix shows the number of bicycles flowing through each stage of the process.

b) Daily Capacity at Each Stage:

To calculate the daily capacity at each stage, we need to consider the time taken for each service option. Given that the shop operates for 60 hours per week, we can calculate the daily capacity at each stage:

Tune-up technician time per bicycle (\(T_{tuneup}\)) = 75 minutes

Additional services technician time per bicycle (\(T_{additional}\)) = 72 minutes

Wheel balancing specialist time per bicycle (\(T_{balancing}\)) = 20 minutes

Daily Capacity (C) = (60 hours * 60 minutes) / (\(T_{tuneup}\) + \(T_{additional}\) + \(T_{balancing}\))

Substituting the given values:

C = (60 * 60) / (75 + 72 + 20)

C = 21600 / 167

C ≈ 129.34 bicycles per day

Therefore, the daily capacity at each stage of the process is as follows:

Tune-up: 129 bicycles per day

Additional Services: 129 bicycles per day

Wheel Balancing: 129 bicycles per day

c) Implied Utilizations:

To find the implied utilizations, we need to compare the demand and the capacity at each stage of the process. Utilization can be calculated as the demand divided by the capacity.

Implied Utilization (U) = Demand / Daily Capacity

For the Tune-up stage:

\(U_{tuneup}\) = 135 / 129 ≈ 1.05

For the Additional Services stage:

\(U_{additional}\) = 45 / 129 ≈ 0.35

For the Wheel Balancing stage:

\(U_{balancing}\) = 0 / 129 = 0

The implied utilizations show how efficiently each stage of the process is being utilized. Utilization values greater than 1 indicate that the stage is operating beyond its capacity.

d) Weekly Capacity of the Process:

To calculate the weekly capacity of the process, we multiply the daily capacity by the number of days the shop is open per week:

Weekly Capacity = Daily Capacity * Number of days shop is open per week

Given that the shop is open for 60 hours per week, the number of days the shop is open per week can be calculated as follows:

Number of days shop is open per week = 60 hours / 24 hours per day = 2.5 days

Therefore, the weekly capacity of the process is:

Weekly Capacity = Daily Capacity * Number of days shop is open per week

Weekly Capacity = 129 bicycles per day * 2.5 days

Weekly Capacity = 322.5 bicycles per week

e) Flow Rate and Constraint Analysis:

To determine if the flow rate of the process is capacity-constrained or demand-constrained, we compare the weekly capacity to the demand for each service option.

Demand for Tune-up (\(T_{demand}\)) = 135 bicycles per week

Demand for Additional Services (\(A_{demand}\)) = 45 bicycles per week

Comparing the demands with the weekly capacity:

\(T_{demand}\) < Weekly Capacity (135 < 322.5)

\(A_{demand}\) < Weekly Capacity (45 < 322.5)

Since both the demands for tune-up and additional services are less than the weekly capacity, the flow rate of the process is demand-constrained. This means the shop has the capacity to handle the current demand without operating beyond its limits.

Find the root(s) of f (x) = (x + 5)3(x - 9)2(x + 1). -5 with multiplicity 35 with multiplicity 3-9 with multiplicity 29 with multiplicity 2-1 with multiplicity 0-1 with multiplicity 11 with multiplicity 01 with multiplicity 1.

Answers

The roots of the function  \(f (x) = (x + 5)^3(x - 9)^2(x + 1)\) are -5 with a multiplicity of 3, 9 with a multiplicity of 2, and -1 with a multiplicity of 1.

Quadratic, cubic, quartic, and other functions involving only non-negative integer powers of x are examples of polynomial functions. This function is given by \(f(x) = a_nx^n+a_{n-1}x^{n-1}+...........+a_2x^2+a_1x+a_0\).

The given function is  \(f (x) = (x + 5)^3(x - 9)^2(x + 1)\). The roots of the given function are the values of x that makes f(x) = 0.

Therefore, to find the root solve each of the terms to zero. Because if any one of the terms is equal to zero, the entire function is zero.

So, solving the first term,

\(\begin{aligned}(x+5)^3&=0\\x+5&=0\\x&=-5\end{aligned}\)

The multiplicity of a root is measured by the power of the term. Here, the power is 3. So,  x = -5 with the multiplicity of 3.

Solving the second term,

\(\begin{aligned}(x-9)^2&=0\\x-9&=0\\x&=9\end{aligned}\)

Here, the power is 2. So, x = 9 with the multiplicity of 2.

Solving the third term,

\(\begin{aligned}x+1&=0\\x&=-1\end{aligned}\)

Here, the power is 1. So, x = -1 with the multiplicity of 1.

Therefore, the roots of the function  \(f (x) = (x + 5)^3(x - 9)^2(x + 1)\) are

-5 with a multiplicity of 39 with a multiplicity of 2-1 with the multiplicity of 1
