She is pleased because she likes her new job.

Which evidence from "Caline" best supports the answer in Part A?

"When the woman asked her again after another week if she were still pleased, she was not so sure."

"For she knew now that it was not the great city and its crowds of people she had so eagerly sought; but the pleasant-faced boy, who had made her picture that day under the mulberry tree."

He includes interesting punctuation in each sentence.
He starts each sentence with the same word.

Answers

Answer:

He uses a mix of long and short sentences.

Explanation:

In the given passage, Frederick Douglass uses a mix of long and short sentences to vary his sentence structure and make his writing more interesting for the reader. For instance, the first sentence is a short and declarative sentence that expresses his intention to take to the water to gain freedom. The second sentence is longer and more complex, explaining his plan in detail. Then he uses another short sentence to conclude his thought. By mixing the length of the sentences, Douglass creates a rhythm and flow to his writing, which keeps the reader engaged and interested in the story.

Answer:

“I hope you find one today, Alexa,” Dad says, as if reading my thoughts.

“Me, too,” my brother, Jonah, says. “I want to see one, too!”

I lift my head up, turn toward Jonah, and glare. Why, why, why does he always insist on following me everywhere, doing everything I do? Make your own friends, I want to scream at him. Find your own green sea turtle!

But I don’t say it. I don’t say anything. Ever since Jonah was a little kid and they discovered the reason he acts so different is because he has autism, I’ve been trained to make allowances for him. Trained to put up with a lot.

Like, for instance, having to go to the airport weeks before this vacation to “practice” taking a trip on an airplane. My family, and other families with kids like Jonah, had to go through the whole drill—carry luggage (empty, of course), stand in lines (waiting for what, exactly?)—all to board a plane that would never leave the ground.

“Alexa,” my mother had said while I sighed and groaned throughout the entire pointless exercise, “if we ever hope to take that six-hour flight to the Virgin Islands, we have to get Jonah used to the idea. Otherwise, the trip could go very badly.”

The practice must have worked because we all survived the real flight two weeks later, even though Jonah acted totally embarrassingly. He did a lot of hand flapping and looking over his seat to ask the man behind us a million weird questions over and over again, like had he ever ridden a camel. At least Jonah didn’t scream.

But since we’ve been here, “badly” just about sums up how the entire vacation has gone. Jonah freaked out about the feel of the hot sand on his skin. He’ll never get the idea about not yelling at the top of his lungs in restaurants. And he can’t even try to understand that maybe I’d like to do some things on my own. He’s attached himself to me like a barnacle. It’s even worse than it is at home. At least there, my friends and I can go into my room and lock the door when Jonah won’t leave us alone, which is often. I try to go to my friends’ houses as much as possible, so we don’t have to put up with Jonah saying weird things, like asking a friend “Is that your shirt?” over and over when it’s obviously hers—she’s wearing it!—or doing weird things, like lining up all the spoons in the house down the hallway and screeching at us if we accidentally move one.

“We’ll anchor here,” the captain calls out as the catamaran putters to a stop in the middle of Turtle Cove.

Ever since Mom told us she won this trip to St. Thomas for being the top producer at work, all I’ve been able to think about is seeing at least one green sea turtle, hopefully even swimming with one green sea turtle. I’ve watched videos online of people swimming with the turtles, and that’s the main reason I wanted to go on this trip.

“Dad,” I say as the captain drops the anchor, “could you and Jonah please swim off that side of the boat, so I can go in the opposite direction?”

What is the theme, or central idea, of the poem? How does the poet convey this theme? Cite evidence to support your inference. You can refer to the chart you used as you read.

"Say to them,
say to the down-keepers,
the sun-slappers,
the self-soilers,

the harmony-hushers,
Even if you are not ready for day

Live not for battles won.
Live not for the-end-of-the-song.
Live in the along."

Answers

Answer: In "Speech to the Young: Speech to the Progress Toward" by Gwendolyn Brooks, the theme/central idea is that young people should make a change.

Explanation: There is a summary about it from a website I read and I have it pasted below.

Source: https://interestingliterature.com/2023/01/gwendolyn-brooks-speech-to-the-young-summary-analysis/

"This short lyric poem (a poem in which a speaker discusses their thoughts and feelings) comprises just two stanzas. In the first stanza, Brooks urges young people to push for change, even in the face of resistance from those people who would attempt to keep them down. In a memorable image, Brooks likens such naysayers (or ‘sun-slappers’, as she describes them) to people who are reluctant for it to be daytime and want it to remain night.

Brooks tells the young that they will be proved right if they persevere and bring about the change they wish to see in the world. It is hard, but – in an image drawn from the game of baseball – she says it will be a ‘home-run’. A home run in baseball is when a batter hits a fair ball and scores, without being put out. Brooks is telling the young that they can achieve what they set out to do and emerge triumphant, like a better scoring a home run.

In the poem’s second, shorter stanza, Brooks tells the young not to rest on their laurels, or the laurels of those generations who have gone before. In other words, don’t think that society has reached a point where all battles worth fighting have already been won and there is no more progress to be made.

Instead of living with only the end-goal in focus, they should enjoy the process of bringing about change: the struggle, the fight, the friendships forged along the way, the gradual shift towards a better world. She likens this, memorably, to living ‘in the along’: that is, living from one day to the next, and living in the moment and for the moment."

Hope this helps you

Answer:

The theme of the poem "Say to them" by Gwendolyn Brooks is that it is important to keep going, even when things are tough. The poet uses a variety of literary devices to convey this theme, including:

Imagery: The poet uses vivid imagery to paint a picture of the challenges that life can present. For example, she refers to the "down-keepers" who try to keep people down, the "sun-slappers" who try to discourage people from pursuing their dreams, and the "self-soilers" who give up on themselves.

Repetition: The poet repeats the phrase "even if you are not ready for day, it cannot always be night" to emphasize the importance of perseverance.

Rhetorical questions: The poet asks a series of rhetorical questions to challenge the reader's thinking. For example, she asks "Live not for battles won. Live not for the-end-of-the-song. Live in the along." This question encourages the reader to think about the importance of living in the present moment and not just focusing on the future.

The poet's message is that it is important to keep going, even when things are tough. No matter how many challenges we face, we must never give up on our dreams. We must keep moving forward, even when we are not ready for the next step. We must keep living, even when it is difficult.

The poem is a powerful reminder that we are all capable of great things. We can overcome any obstacle if we set our minds to it. We must never give up on ourselves or our dreams.

PLEASE HELP *I WILL MARK YOU BRAINLIST* Imagine that you have to write an argumentative essay on whether or not teenagers should be allowed to have their own cell phones. Write a claim for this essay with at least one reason. (2 points)

Answers

Answer:

In my opinion teenagers should be allowed to have their own cellphones and this is my opinion on it.

To start off with teenagers need to keep in touch, for example what happens if your late to pick your child up from school you wouldnt be able to keep in touch.

Another reason out of the many is to improve their organization for example you can set alarms and use a calendar to mark down special events such as meets and school events.

Finally in encourages their responsibility.

In conclusion their are many reasons why teenagers should own a phone and that is my opinion on it.

These days cell phones are a hand to the world. you won't see a kid without a mobile phone in hand. though mobile phones can be a great influence, it is very dangerous to have it too. Cell phones have both advantages and disadvantages.

People can learn a lot from cell phones. Cell phones are used for entertainment, communication, taking photos or videos and staying up to date. Teenagers can also learn the importance of responsibility by the use of this device.

But with this there can be a huge impact on kids using mobile phones. Kids using mobile can have a huge loss of studies. They can learn things which are not supposed to be known. Once you get the mobile phone addiction it is very hard to get rid of it. if u misuse the use of mobile phones you can also get serious health issues.

In my opinion teenager shouldn't get mobile phones at this age as it is a huge threat to their studies as well as there life.
