Answers

Answer 1

The sentence that contains an example of pathos is: "Animal shelter dogs need people to adopt them to ensure that the dogs are not sad and lonely."

Pathos is a rhetorical device used to evoke emotions in the audience. This sentence appeals to the audience's emotions by using the words "sad and lonely" to create a sense of pity or empathy for the animals. It aims to persuade the audience to take action and adopt a shelter dog to alleviate their suffering.

Answer 2

Animal shelter dogs need people to adopt them to ensure that the dogs are not sad and lonely.

Animal shelter

Owner surrender, often known as relinquishing an animal, is a practise that is permitted by many shelter laws. An open admittance shelter, which typically belongs to a municipality or is maintained by a private organisation under a contract with it, will take in any animal, regardless of the reason. Municipal shelters might only accept animals from the neighbourhood they serve. A managed admission shelter requests appointments and limits the number of animals it will accept in accordance with its resources. Private or nonprofit shelters without municipal contracts that have limited admission policies may only take in adoptable and healthy animals. Four options are available for an animal in a shelter: return to owner, adoption, transfer to another shelter or rescue centre, and death.

Why do you think that Tara Westover chose the VirginiaWoolf epigraph at the beginning of her story?

Answers

Answer:

Virginia Woolf was an English author born in 1882. She was one of the first writers to use the narrative technique known as stream of consciousness. Woolf is quoted often in today's world. One of her quotes is the one mentioned above:

"... the past is beautiful because one never realizes an emotion at the time. It expands later, and thus we don't have complete emotions about the present, only the past."

Many authors, such as Tara Westover, use this quote in their own work. It is likely that Woolf was attempting to express the concept that "hindsight is 20/20" or something similar to this. This means that the past can only be appreciated because with the past comes memories that hold emotions.

Tara Westover chose to use an epigraph by Virginia Woolf because the epigraph was able to express a very important point in the book and in the message that Tara Westover wished to convey to the reader.

Although you haven't shown it, the above question refers to “Educated” by Tara Westover, a book in which she writes her memoirs and uses an epigraph by Virginia Woolf, to reinforce the importance of remembering the past and recognizing its impact on the present.

By reading this book, we can see that:

Westover tells how she lived a difficult childhood, surrounded by violence and sorrow. She only realized this negative impact of her life, when the moments she lived became the past.In the present, she is able to better analyze her difficult childhood and see what caused so many problems.Virginia Woolf's epigraph shows how the present goes unnoticed by people, who can only analyze it when it becomes the past.

With that, we can conclude that the epigraph of Virginia Woolf is directly related to the message that Westover wants to pass on to the readers and for that reason, this epigraph was used.

Option D is correct.

What is the meaning of the title, "Do not go gentle into that good night?"

The speaker acknowledges in "Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night" that death is inevitable—everyone dies at some point. However, this does not imply that individuals should simply give up and succumb to death. The speaker, on the other hand, argues that people should bravely and ferociously fight against death.

A genetically modified organism is any organism whose genetic material has been altered using genetic engineering techniques. The exact definition of a genetically modified organism and what constitutes genetic engineering varies, with the most common being an organism altered in a way that "does not occur naturally by mating and/or natural recombination". Genes have been transferred within the same species, across species, and even across kingdoms. New genes can be introduced, or endogenous genes can be enhanced, altered, or knocked out. A wide variety of organisms have been genetically modified, from animals to plants and microorganisms.  In 1994 the Flavr Savr tomato was released, the first commercialized genetically modified food. The first genetically modified animal to be commercialized was the GloFish and the first genetically modified animal to be approved for food use was the AquAdvantage salmon in 2015. Many objections have been raised over the development of GMOs, particularly their commercialization. Many of these involve GM crops and whether food produced from them is safe and what impact growing them will have on the environment. Other concerns are the objectivity and rigor of regulatory authorities, contamination of non-genetically modified food, control of the food supply, patenting of life, and the use of intellectual property rights. Although there is a scientific consensus that currently available food derived from GM crops poses no greater risk to human health than conventional food, GM food safety is a leading issue with critics.

What constitutes a genetically modified organism is not always clear and can vary widely. At its broadest, it can include anything that has had its genes altered, including by nature. Taking a less broad view it can encompass every organism that has had its genes altered by humans, which would include all crops and livestock. There are examples of crops that fit this definition but are not normally considered GMOs. The genetically engineered organism  can be considered a more precise term compared to GMO when describing organisms' genomes that have been directly manipulated with biotechnology. The term GMO originally was not typically used by scientists to describe genetically engineered organisms until after usage of GMO became common in popular media. The United States Department of Agriculture considers GMOs to be plants or animals with heritable changes introduced by genetic engineering or traditional methods, while GEO specifically refers to organisms with genes introduced, eliminated, or rearranged using molecular biology, particularly recombinant DNA techniques, such as transgenesis.

The first genetically modified crop, an antibiotic-resistant tobacco plant, was produced in 1982. China was the first country to commercialize transgenic plants, introducing a virus-resistant tobacco in 1992. In 1994 Calgene attained approval to commercially release the Flavr Savr tomato, the first genetically modified food. Also in 1994, the European Union approved tobacco engineered to be resistant to the herbicide bromoxynil, making it the first genetically engineered crop commercialized in Europe. The first genetically modified animal to be commercialized was the GloFish, a Zebrafish with a fluorescent gene added that allows it to glow in the dark under ultraviolet light. It was released to the US market in 2003. In 2015 AquAdvantage salmon became the first genetically modified animal to be approved for food use. Approval is for fish raised in Panama and sold in the US.

Bacteria

For over a century bacteria have been used in agriculture. Crops have been inoculated with Rhizobia to increase their production or to allow them to be grown outside their original habitat. Application of Bacillus thuringiensis and other bacteria can help protect crops from insect infestation and plant diseases. With advances in genetic engineering, these bacteria have been manipulated for increased efficiency and expanded host range. Markers have also been added to aid in tracing the spread of the bacteria. The bacteria that naturally colonize certain crops have also been modified, in some cases to express the Bt genes responsible for pest resistance. This led to the development of ice-minus bacteria, which have the ice-forming genes removed. When applied to crops they can compete with the non-modified bacteria and confer some frost resistance. Other uses for genetically modified bacteria include bioremediation, where the bacteria are used to convert pollutants into a less toxic form. Genetic engineering can increase the levels of the enzymes used to degrade a toxin or to make the bacteria more stable under environmental conditions.

"The Yellow Wallpaper" What is the plot of the story and what does the wallpaper represent?

Answers

Answer:

"The Yellow Wallpaper" is a short story written by Charlotte Perkins Gilman, published in 1892. The story is narrated in the form of a journal or diary, and it follows the experiences of an unnamed woman who is suffering from what is implied to be postpartum depression. The story is set in a house where the protagonist, along with her husband, has rented for the summer.

The plot of the story revolves around the protagonist's descent into madness as she becomes increasingly obsessed with the yellow wallpaper in her bedroom. She becomes fixated on the patterns and colors of the wallpaper, and she begins to imagine that there is a woman trapped behind the wallpaper who is trying to escape. The protagonist's mental state deteriorates further as she becomes more isolated and confined within the room, and her obsession with the wallpaper intensifies.

The wallpaper in the story is often interpreted as a symbol that represents the protagonist's deteriorating mental state and her struggle against societal norms and expectations. It is seen as a reflection of her own mental confinement and oppression, as well as a manifestation of her own descent into madness. The yellow color and the pattern of the wallpaper are often interpreted as representing the societal expectations and constraints placed upon women during the time the story was written, particularly in relation to women's mental health and their roles in marriage and motherhood.

Overall, "The Yellow Wallpaper" is a psychological and allegorical story that explores the themes of gender, mental health, oppression, and societal expectations, and it is often regarded as a seminal work in feminist literature.

I need an argument essay on free healthcare for everyone.

Answers

Answer:

Explanation:

The issue of health care reforms did not start when President Obama took office. The debate on healthcare has been ongoing. There have been many attempts in an attempt to bring revolutions in healthcare. The past efforts have failed in the past due to weak regimes, insufficient lobbying, differences in ideology and maybe the complexity of the issue. The issue of reforms was started in the 1800 but started being debated upon in the 1930s. The Great Depression was the most contributing factor that lead to the bringing up of this issue. This is because many people did not have employment and could not afford healthcare. There was therefore a need to have affordable healthcare.

The issue of health care reform has been taken differently by the Republicans and Democrats. Republicans believe that the healthcare reforms will meant that there will be more taxes that will be imposed for the wealthy in the society. They believe that it is the wealthy who create jobs invest. If they are heavily taxed, this will mean that they will no longer be able to create more jobs and invest. They state that if the program is to be introduced, then it should not eat into the hard work of the wealthy. This would be punishing the wealthy group in the society. Another view of the republicans is that the ideology is totally wrong. They believe that the government should not control the lives of citizens too much. They believe that individuals should work in order to get what they want in life. Another issue with republicans is that of deficit of American budget. They argue that healthcare reforms will be carried out at the expense of the already fleecing budget.

The views of the Democrats is that health care insurance is part of the promise for America that was made by the forefathers. They believe that each and every citizen should have access to quality healthcare. They believe that there should be no cancelation of coverage basing on family or gender issues. Another issue that they advocate is that healthcare should not be privatized. The senior Americans should not be made to pay more for the needy in the society. They believe that the less privileged in the society should be taken care of by all Americans. The third issue that the Democrats advocate for is that they advocate for wider coverage and reduced healthcare costs. They believe that many people should have access to healthcare at rates which are reduced and affordable (Brookham, 2006 73).

The congress are against the reforms that are being advocated in healthcare. They do not approve the approach that health care is being taken. This is something that is bringing some discord in the congress.

The past presidents of the United States have had varying opinions on healthcare reforms. Most presidents wanted to move away from state type of healthcare to a more comprehensive one that could be integrated with social security. Roosevelt and Truman failed to bring these implementations in the health care sector. This was because employers were giving better benefits and there was promises that it could get better with time. There was no cooperation with the big corporations and the reforms failed. President Clinton came up with the issue of reforms in the 1990s. He came up with The Health Security Act which was universal and the government would be tasked with running it. He argued that the costs would be cut down completely. Many people supported some part of the initiative of Clinton but waited for the parts they did not like to be changed before fully supporting it. Under President Obama, there are still issues that need to be addressed in the healthcare reforms. There are strides that have been made in reforms. The Obama administration have succeeded to enable people not to be excluded from any coverage because of conditions which are preexisting.
