Tricia could strengthen her refutation by explicitly listing other ways to raise money, as shown in option D.

We can arrive at this answer because:

A refutation is an argument that is contrary to another argument that was presented earlier. In this case, the refutation shows that the previous argument is incorrect, or does not present relevant information. For a refutation to be effective, the evidence must be presented that the information in the refutation is correct.

In this case, we can affirm that Tricia's refutation would be more efficient and stronger if there was evidence to prove her argument.

This evidence could be presented if she explicitly listed how the city could raise money.

Suppose you asked several people to tell you what their favorite pet might be. Many people would answer your question by saying dogs were their favorite.

Dogs can be trained in so many ways that they can become actual companions and friends to their owners. People have depended upon dogs for so many kinds of friendships. Some dogs are well-behaved house pets. Others are loyal watch dogs and protectors of valuable property. Hunters have trained their dogs to help find and retrieve game. Dogs are used to assist the physically challenged in many ways. These helping dogs are used as leader dogs for the visually impaired. They can also assist those bound to a wheelchair. Dogs have also been trained to help rescue people who have been lost or injured.

A dog is one of the most loyal of pets. This loyalty certainly makes the dog one of man's best friends.

Dogs can be trained to rescue lost or injured people.
Dogs can be very loyal, useful friends.
Many hunters use dogs to help find game.
Dogs make good watchdogs.

Read the excerpt from "Elon Musk.”

In 1995, Musk faced an important decision. He had just earned college degrees in physics and business. He had planned to spend the next few years in graduate school. He began classes at Stanford University. Then, he changed his mind.

Does the excerpt support the inference that Musk thinks school is unnecessary?

Yes, because he likes business. He can learn that best by working.
Yes, because he changed his mind. He must think that education is not important.
No, because he likes physics. He can only learn that in school.
No, because he got a college degree. He must think some education is important.

Answers

No, because he got a college degree. He must think some education is important. Option D.

The excerpt from "Elon Musk" does not support the inference that Musk thinks school is unnecessary. The fact that Musk had just earned college degrees in both physics and business indicates that he values education and recognizes its importance.

Obtaining college degrees requires a significant investment of time, effort, and dedication to academic pursuits. It suggests that Musk believes in the value of structured education and the acquisition of knowledge and skills through formal schooling.

While the excerpt mentions that Musk had planned to spend the next few years in graduate school but changed his mind, this decision alone does not imply a belief that education is not important.

It could be influenced by various factors, such as an opportunity that presented itself outside of the academic setting or a desire to pursue a different path to apply his knowledge and skills.

Musk's choice to pursue further education and complete college degrees suggests a recognition of the benefits of education and a commitment to personal growth and development. It would be hasty to conclude that he views education as unnecessary based solely on this brief excerpt.

In summary, the excerpt does not support the inference that Musk thinks school is unnecessary. The fact that he earned college degrees indicates his belief in the importance of education, and his decision to change his plans for graduate school may have been influenced by other factors unrelated to the value of education itself. SO Option D is correct.

In my school, dress code is a common enemy. The girls are treated unfairly and must abide by the rules while the boys get off free.

Explanation:

Dear Mr/Ms……,

It was brought to my attention that there is some inequity in the school’s enforcement of the uniform policy.  Many times the girls have been told their shorts are too short while we have personally observed several boys walking around with their pants so low that their underwear can be seen.  Many of us believe this is wrong and is an indication of disparate treatment.

We have always been raised that a rule is the expectation, regardless.  If the boys are allowed to interpret the rule any way that they can, the girls should be able to as well.  We understand the schools thought process that shorter shorts or tank tops can distract the boys, but we find that unacceptable.  To us that is simply allowing their behavior to continue and simply saying “boys will be boys”.  Women have fought in the last 100 years for equality and the “boys will be boys” philosophy should not be accepted.

However, we recognize sometimes there are more issues and life is not as simple as we wish it could be.  Therefore, we are not asking to change the dress policy to allow girls to wear tank tops or be questioned when their shorts are 4/10th of an inch too short, we are simply asking that the rules be enforced with equity, that everyone is held to the same expectation because we are all equal.

We have been told that a good negotiation is when no one walks away from the table happy because no one person got what they absolutely wanted.  We believe, if you want to treat the girls and boys with equality, then the rules should be enforced with equality.  If the expectation is clearly communicated to everyone and enforced with equality, then no one has any room to complain, even if they don’t agree with the policy.

We appreciate your time.

The two rhetorical appeals used in this passage are ethos and pathos. Ethos is established by the statement "93% of Americans believe that the arts are essential for a balanced education," which appeals to the credibility of a large group of people.

The use of statistics to support the argument further enhances the ethos. Pathos is used to appeal to the emotions of the readers, as the author highlights the benefits of studying art, such as improved mental health and social development, which are qualities that any parent would want for their child.

The use of the phrase "and who wouldn't want that for their children" also evokes an emotional response from the readers, as it highlights the importance of art in education and the benefits it can bring to individuals. Overall, the author effectively uses ethos and pathos to argue for the importance of art education in addition to STEM courses.

Despite the ideas of freedom conveyed by these lines, the poet goes on to say that she must return to her tasks and chores. Therefore, "My hour of rest had fleeted by, / And back came labor, bondage, care" is a correct answer as it addresses the theme that as freeing as nature is, the duty of work cannot be fully escaped.
