how did the start of the revolutionary war affect Rittenhouse?

How Did The Start Of The Revolutionary War Affect Rittenhouse?

Answers

Answer 1

Answer:

David Rittenhouse's parents, Elizabeth Williams and Matthias Rittenhouse, were farmers near Germantown, at that time a separate town close to Philadelphia. William Rittenhouse built the first paper mill in the British colonies in Germantown in 1690. David showed great promise as a child, particularly displaying a talent for constructing mechanical models and showing considerable mathematical skills. When he was eight years old it is recorded that he built a model of a water mill. Bedini writes in.He was fascinated with mathematics from his early years but, with little opportunity for schooling, was largely self-taught from books on elementary arithmetic and geometry and a box of tools inherited from an uncle, David Williams. He also read more advanced works, in particular an English translation of Newton's Principia. Rufus, insees Rittenhouse as a mathematical disciple of Newton.making a wooden one when he was seventeen, then a brass one a little later. By 1751 he had opened a shop on a road that ran through his father's farm where he sold clocks, mathematical instruments and mechanical models of the solar system.

Explanation:

Of course Rittenhouse lived through a difficult period with much of the fighting during the French and Indian War from 1754 to 1763 taking place in Pennsylvania. Despite this he began to construct astronomical instruments in 1756. He married Eleanor Coulston in 1766; they had two children.Rittenhouse was elected to the American Philosophical Society in 1768 and, based on calculations which he made, the Society made plans to observe the transit of Venus which was calculated to take place in 1769. The plans consisted of setting up observatories on three sites from which observations would be made. Rittenhouse built one of these observatories at his home as well as constructing most of the astronomical instruments to be used in it. It is believed that he made the first telescope in the United States as one of these instruments.During this transit [Rittenhouse] observed that Venus has an atmosphere. His findings were similar to those of the Russian scientist Mikhail Vasilyevich Lomonosov, who had identified Venus's atmosphere during a transit in 1761. Though both had written about their observations, neither report was published or publicised for more than a century.Rittenhouse continued to do excellent business from his shop where he made steady sales of surveying instruments. However his wife tragically died in childbirth in 1770 and in that year he moved permanently to Philadelphia. In fact two years later he remarried, this time to Hannah Jacobs. There was one child from this second marriage which died while an infant.

Not only did Rittenhouse have an outstanding reputation as the maker of surveying instruments, but also his expertise as a surveyor was very evident and he was in great demand in a land where borders were being defined and boundaries being surveyed. Rittenhouse served as City Surveyor of Philadelphia in 1774. However as the American Revolution approached, Pennsylvania became a centre of military, economic, and political activity, and Rittenhouse began to play an important role. A Continental Congress was formed which met in Philadelphia in September 1774 with a Second Continental Congress met, also in Philadelphia, in May 1775. With outstanding expertise in mechanical inventions, Rittenhouse was soon involved in organising the manufacture of armaments such as cannon and ammunition, chains to fortify the harbour, as well as gunpowder. The American Revolution began in Pennsylvania, where a strong radical party seized power. The Congress recommended that colonies form their own governments and assigned a committee to draft a declaration of independence. Rittenhouse was, during this period, a member of the Pennsylvania General Assembly. He also served on the Board of War and was state treasurer from 1779 to 1787.

why are archeological sources comparatively less important for the modern period

Answers

While there are a handful of defined methods for working with primary historical sources in archaeology, few archaeologists take these as their main points of departure or rely upon them too rigidly. This is to do both with the highly variable nature of the historical and archaeological material available for certain African contexts, and also with how archaeologists conceive of the relationship between these two bodies of evidence: as antagonistic, supplementary, entangled and subjective, mutually creative, and so on. Some methodologies focus on the potentials for consonance and dissonance between written and material sources. Others utilize oral traditions to provide insights into chronology, memory, historical and political dynamics, and the material aspects of these. Still other approaches focus on how historical and archaeological sources offer complementary perspectives on the local and the global, events and processes, and other shifts in scale. While these methods are diverse and contingent, they are united insofar as archaeologists take their cues from objects and from preoccupations with time and space. Archaeologists see their work concerning primary historical sources not as filling in gaps in written records but as addressing the partialities of the records themselves by engaging with an array of complex questions about meaning, authority, and materiality

Because written records and other forms of documentation, which offer more thorough and accurate information about the past, characterize the modern period, archaeological sources are relatively less significant for it.

What is archeological sources?

They consist of historical structures, coins, inscriptions, and other remains, as well as tangible proof of past human activity. Archaeological sources are the tangible evidence, ruins, or remnants of items or built buildings from the past.

By examining physical artifacts that people have made, altered, or used in the past, archaeologists can learn about human history. We now know more about our past thanks to archaeological sources, which also gave us access to crucial information that would not have been possible otherwise.

As a result, the significance of the archeological sources comparatively less important for the modern period are the aforementioned.

President Truman ordered MacArthur to stop at the 38th parallel, the original border between the two Koreas. He feared pushing farther would provoke China into joining the war. However, MacArthur's arrogance got the better of him. He believed China would not get involved and ordered his troops to continue pushing through North Korea all the way through to their border with China. This alarmed Mao and other Chinese leaders who saw this as an invasion of a communist land by a Western army, and thus took it as a threat to China itself. Urged by Stalin, China immediately ordered hundreds of thousands of troops into the war. UN forces were forced to retreat, and the fighting became horrendous for both sides. MacArthur wanted to use tactical nuclear weapons against China, but Truman refused. MacArthur additionally spoke out against Truman publicly about his decisions. Finally, Truman had enough and could no longer trust MacArthur. He fired MacArthur for insubordination. (The Human Odyssey, Vol. 3, p. 216).

Answer:

Hie..! Here's the answer

Egypt, country located in the northeastern corner of Africa. Egypt’s heartland, the Nile River valley and delta, was the home of one of the principal civilizations of the ancient Middle East and, like Mesopotamia farther east, was the site of one of the world’s earliest urban and literate societies. Pharaonic Egypt thrived for some 3,000 years through a series of native dynasties that were interspersed with brief periods of foreign rule. After Alexander the Great conquered the region in 323 BCE, urban Egypt became an integral part of the Hellenistic world. Under the Greek Ptolemaic dynasty, an advanced literate society thrived in the city of Alexandria, but what is now Egypt was conquered by the Romans in 30 BCE. It remained part of the Roman Republic and Empire and then part of Rome’s successor state, the Byzantine Empire, until its conquest by Arab Muslim armies in 639–642 CE.

Until the Muslim conquest, great continuity had typified Egyptian rural life. Despite the incongruent ethnicity of successive ruling groups and the cosmopolitan nature of Egypt’s larger urban centres, the language and culture of the rural, agrarian masses—whose lives were largely measured by the annual rise and fall of the Nile River, with its annual inundation—had changed only marginally throughout the centuries. Following the conquests, both urban and rural culture began to adopt elements of Arab culture, and an Arabic vernacular eventually replaced the Egyptian language as the common means of spoken discourse. Moreover, since that time, Egypt’s history has been part of the broader Islamic world, and though Egyptians continued to be ruled by foreign elite—whether Arab, Kurdish, Circassian, or Turkish—the country’s cultural milieu remained predominantly Arab.

"The exomis, the exomis, was fastened at the left shoulder  with a pin or knot, leaving the right shoulder bare, and  was tied at the waist with a girdle." For this tunic was more open, and to show that the slaves were at the bottom of the society.

Imagine you are a soldier after the American Revolutionary war. The Articles of Confederation are in place and the government has no money to pay you for your work in the war. You are about to lose your land and home. Do you agree with the people that participated in Shay's Rebellion? Why or Why not?

Answers

Shay's Rebellion was a reaction to the financial and political difficulties faced by the early United States after the American Revolution. The soldiers who fought in the war, including the imagined soldier in this scenario, were owed large amounts of money by the government and were on the verge of losing their homes and land. It can be understood that they might agree with the participants in Shay's Rebellion as they were facing similar financial difficulties and wanted their rights to be protected.

However, it can also be argued that resorting to violence and rebellion is not an appropriate solution to address the issues faced by the government and the citizens. A more reasonable solution would be to seek political and legal means to address the grievances and work towards a more stable and just system.

How did Great Britain push representative governments in the thirteen colonies to grow?
A) by supporting royal governors
B) by neglecting colonial affairs
C) by intervening in local disputes
D) by appointing leaders

Answers

Answer:

by appointing leaders

Explanation:

The United States of America started out as 13 original colonies. These colonies belonged to the British Empire and were founded during the 17th and 18th centuries.

By the 1700s, the British government controlled its colonies under mercantilism, a system that regulated the balance of trade in favor of Britain. Over time, colonists became frustrated with this unfair economic system and with Britain's administration of taxation of the colonies without any accompanying representation in Britain.

The governments of the colonies were formed in different manners and with various structures. Each colony was set up in a way such that by the mid-1700s, they had a strong capacity for self-government and held local elections. Some early colonial governments foreshadowed elements that would be found in the U.S. government after independence.

Do you think the soldiers
should have been paid
for their service to the
Continental Army? Why or
why not?

Answers

Answer:

They should have been payed due to the conditions of the army and how difficult living situations were.

Explanation:

why they should have been payed- Most men who served in the Continental Army were between the ages of 15 and 30.

Life in the Continental Army was difficult. It was mundane and monotonous. Generally, when not engaged in combat, soldiers in the Continental Army served three duties: fatigue or manual labor, such as digging vaults (latrines), clearing fields, or erecting fortifications. They also served on guard duty and drilled daily with their musket and in marching formations.

Reveille was typically at daybreak and soldiers cooked one meal per day, generally around 3:00 pm. Whatever food was left over from the meal, soldiers divided and placed in their haversacks to be consumed as needed. Rations were determined by Congress. Each man received 1.5 pounds of meat per day, typically beef. Each hunk they received included not only the meat, but bone, fat, and gristle. They also received one pound of bread per day, which was baked daily inside the camp, or 1.5 pounds of flour to make firecakes. Firecakes were like pancakes. Soldiers heated a flat rock, then mixed the flour with water, meat, gristle, and poured the mixture on the heated rock, then would flip it over to cook the other side.

Answer:

The Continental Army should have been paid.

Explanation:

Because of their living/working conditions, less food, uncertainty of death etc.

Which of these tools or constructions is used to inscribe a square inside a circle? A. Parallel line through a point B. Equilateral triangle C. Perpendicular bisector D. Rotational symmetry

Answers

Answer:d

Explanation:

ask your teacher

The tools or constructions is used to inscribe a square inside a circle is an Equilateral triangle. Thus the correct option is B.

What is an Equilateral triangle?

An equilateral triangle is one with equal-sized sides on each side and angles that are all up to 60 degrees in length. Here, the three internal angles are all congruent and each measures 60 degrees.

Six equilateral triangles are the necessary tools or constructs to inscribe a hexagon inside of a circle. You can make six triangles if you draw a hexagon inside of a circle and add radii to each of its corners.

The fact that each triangular center of an equilateral triangle is the same as its centroid suggests that the equilateral triangle is the only triangle without an Euler line linking some of the centers.

Therefore, option B is appropriate.
